how to build a locost without a garage!!
thought id share my experiances so far on how to build a locost without a garage at the begining of winter!
1 curse all wethermen for getting the forcast wrong so when they say its going to rain you arrange something other than working on the build then its
sunny all day!
2 curse yourself for thinking ahh i dont need a garage to do this build
3 buy a big tarporlin as thats where its going to stay for a while
4 curse whoever though it was a good idea to have british summer time!!
5 go to the local planning office to collect a planning permission form
6 curse Ron cause he didnt include the £5k to build a garage in his book!!!
7 stop wining and go hardcoreas long as you have a stereo and pletny of coffee theres nothing you cant acheive!!!!!!

What are you building, a replica of the Taj Mahal? Mine cost £800 to build, concrete blocks, recycled bricks and timber and Wickes roof sheets. If
it's not joined to the house and doesn't cover 50% of the garden you don't need planning round here.

I've tried(and succeeded) building cars in the open before,rust is always rearing its ugly head though , and the dodgy weather dictates when you
can do certain jobs . I would spend some time making up a frame work to support some sort of cover ,at least you keep warm ,and reasonably dry. Good

I have got a garage, but there's no electric. Mines a lock-up down the street from my girlfriends parents place. I do tend to spend most of my
time at my parents though, mainly working outside and it's a pain in the arse. If it's not wet the wind's blowing away my pricey
argon/co2. Can't wait to get the chassis done so I can bolt thing to it without the need for electricity.
Have so far managed to build this outside...
And am dying to make more efficient use of this...

Theres a guy on the estate opposite where I live has 2 council garages knocked into one,but no power ,so he runs a lead from his house ,about 30/50
yds to a service road,across the road,and about another 30 yds to his garage !! By the looks of it its only white plastic 3 core cable -trafic (very
light) can't do it any good at all,and the voltage drop ,running a welder on it don't bear thinking about!

About 18 volts over 80 yards with a domestic welder flat out.

Is there a Makro near you? The latest flyer from them has a petrol generator for £49.99! Only 850 Watts though, no good for welding but angle
grinder, lights should be no problem.

Have got a Generator, but it's no good for the welder. It's quite old and quite loud so guess the neighbours wouldn't be too keen
either. Cheers though.

Temporary Garage ??
BIG 18x18ft Army Tent from Anchor Supplies. Not that cheap, but frame is like Ally Scaffold!, and canvas to match!.
Big enough for a locost.
Its a Play Tent. When the council moan, (planning req'd after 28 days around here.. unpeg it, move it six inches and peg down again.

ive come round to the hardcore builders way of thinking of rain aint going to stop me welding!!! and found a pit garage for next to nothing so thats
the way forward!! anyway i thought you were suposed to have a fire extinguisher close by when welding

I bought one of the generators from Makro. Not tried it with a welder, but it certainly powers an angle grinder.
Must find a proper use for it sometime - I bought it because I wanted rather than needed it!

The lamp post idea may not be so bad.
Remembered, a few years back I was driving at night thro one of our townships
Suddenly heard a funny sound coming from the wheels - thought I had a flat.
Stopped to investigate - found probably hundreds of extension cords running from the lamp posts to the shacks.
