Tyres, tyres, tyres...
I know a much discussed topic
But I'm due new tyres and I cant decide what to get.
I currently have R888s (195/50/15), but cant jusitfy the almost £500 bill for a new set (I got mine second hand)
After having a browse I have come down to the following choices
Yoko AD08R - £296.00
Toyo R1R - £252.00
Nankang NS-2R - £236.00
Federal 595RSR- £255.76 (these are priced at £372 at the same site the rest are from?!)
Reading reviews they all see fairly matched, but they are all from much heavier cars than my little MK
What are peoples thoughts and experiences with these tyres on a kit?
Are the 595RSRs good or are the others worth the extra ~£50?

I've got R1Rs in that size on my car and they have been great so far. I believe that they are a similar compound to R888s as well.
Oponeo.com seemed to be the best price for them when I last looked; £256 for four, plus whatever somewhere local will fit them for.

I had the AD08s on my car (not AD08Rs which I think are a little bit better), then switched to R888s as I couldn't get AD08s in the size I
wanted. They were very grippy but overheated a bit on track (big strips of rubber peeling off), so I don't know if they would last that well
(maybe this would be OK on a lighter car, mine's quite heavy). If you can get a set in a suitable size for £312 I would say that's a good
option.
That said I think the R888s are much better on track, but they are expensive.

Might be worth adding, I do a fair few track days
I have found the 888s great, but like said, price is high!
After looking on oponeo (wow!), I have edited the first post prices

Track days, get some rough rims and second hand slicks, they last for ages and even when knackered for competitive driving will still be fantastic.

R1R's are exactly the same compound as R888's btw.... just a different tread pattern

Ive got R1R's on my V8 Westy, great tyres on the road, they get very sticky when they are warmed up a bit on my local track,the A57 Worksop
bypass after midnight
Ive had R888's ao48's ao32's and v70a's on Sevens before and the R1R's are not far off any of them in terms of dry
performance, but have found them to be much better in the wet than all of the above.

I had some slicks, but they took too long to warm up on track days (unless it was a hot day) and didn't seem much different to the 888s...
though all I could picture was yellowcabs rear uprights all bent, which put me off pushing too hard

I have been disappointed to not see any manufacturer fill the A048 \ R888 gap as there seems to be a MASSIVE market for a track day semi-cut slick
designed for cars of 1100KG and below.
The first company that does this at a good price will make a fortune! I was hoping Maxxis were going to fill this gap as they already make good
karting and motorbike sticky tyres but not as yet. The ZR9 by Maxxis looks like their attempt but I cant see it available on in the UK.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I've run federal 959 on a tin top 4wd 300hp. Not amazing dry weather or wet weather grip but not bad at all compared to other road tyres.
Can't imagine it would keep up with an 888 though I could be wrong. That's very cheap though, a whole set for the price of one of my
rears!

I found the switch down to 13's helped tyre price and made the car feel better on the road...

Federals have had lots of reports of cracking and delamination. Heard good things about the nankangs, so much so I just picked some up for the clio,
havent fitted them yet tho so cant report on experience.

federal are heavy!!!
federal do not work at all in wet or rain, compared to yoko´s its like driving a slick.
they arent to bad when dry....but as said above: very, very heavy!!!

A lot of hill cllimb cars are running the Kumho V70, certainly looks interesting.
I do like my Bridgestone RE002 Adrenalines which are very affordable and has a nice turn in
Yokohama S.drive is maybe another option to look at.

I'm left with;
Toyo R1R (someone has offered me a new set of 205/50/15 for the price of the 195s)
