Some days !
You don't think too much.
Was busy removing STAINLESS steel screws from the car, throwing them into a magnetic tray as I went.
Picked it up, and the whole lot fell out all over the floor. I stood there, looking, wondering how that happened.
I also once spent ages retrieving a dropped stainless nut inside the door panel with a magnetic on a stick.

(but I have done similar things, so many times...)
And, before someone says it, some stainless steel is magnetic - but mostly it isn't.

It was magnetic enough to attach, but not enough to overcome gravity.
