nut+bolt amounts
Not long now until I get my vortex chassis delivered so im trying to get prepared early.
One thing thats bothering me is the fittings, not so much suppliers, but knowing what i need to get. I saw tons of nut+bolts at stoneleigh but I dont
have a clue what I need yet. Theres a local show this weekend (cheshire) so im hoping to get a vague idea of what i'll need. im assuming (!) a
lot of these cars use similar sized bolts.
the best source of info ive found is the velocity build manual, where it lists all fittings needed. obviously the Vortex will differ but it still
might be a good general idea of common sizes.

anyone seen any other lists that might be useful as a guide? or have any suggestions for good bulk buys?

my suggestion would be to buy a big box of M12 standard (non nyloc) bolts,
it's a lot easier when you're first putting stuff together to use standard nuts.
normally you'll end up taking everything apart again at least once, which would mean using a fresh nyloc bolt.
once each bit is about complete, go around swapping nuts for nylocs and tightening up.

I used the GTS build manual, which also lists what you need (you can DL from my site if its not working on the GTS site yet).
I made up this list (probably not accurate, but a start)

Also talk to your supplier first.
I buy Washers by the 100
Bolts in 50's and varying lengths, usually a fairly short one, but not the shortest, then a lot of medium ones and a few long ones. Always in a
min of 10's cos of the price breaks (10,100,1000).
I have M6 (quite a few)
M8 most
M10 few
M12 Mainly for suspension, but bought 100 bolts due to suspension and a few other jobs.
Agree with plain nuts at first. and Nylocs on for the last fit / permanent build.
I have gone throughover £100 on nuts bolts and washers. Not counting the stainless ones.
I bought a load of small wall hung bins from B&Q about 15 in a pack, and have my nuts hung on the wall in the bins.
All labelled, as it makes them easier to work with.
Nuts and washers in one bin, and bolts in another bin below them.
It does make life easier. Dont use nylocs twice.. ditch them after use. You dont want the brakes or hubs coming off at 100mph do you... all for the
sake of a 3p nut??

yep im definately going to follow the standard nut->nyloc route, thats a great idea which i hadnt considered.
thanks chaps, i'll peruse the stalls at the show this weekend now that I have an idea what to look for!

Great idea- problem is all the ones you forget to change later- and then fail your SVA with!
Make sure you make a note or atleast mark them in some way.
