Locost advice
So heres the thing its not your normal 'what car', 'what engine' type of question and i am hoping someone out there can
help.
I have been through the build a locost for under £250 and come out the other end with a tasty car(i think so) for under £2000 taken advice from on
here and after 2 1/2 years got it on the road.
Now the point of all this is my bosses at work have seen my car and after a lot of talking have asked me to help build a car with our students in the
evenings due to them being residental and not a lot to do after classes.
What i need to know is which kit out there is the easiest and most complete and also the cheepest !
The main reason for easiest is the students are all disabled in some way I work at a college that retrains people with disabilitys and long term
unemployed and hopfully puts them back into work
the reason for most complete is we want to buy one kit and not have to keep paying out for different parts and cheepest because we have a tight budget
and not likey to get anymore.
Now if you got through that lot heres the ideas.
Buy doner serria (which type would be best?)
Robin hood lightweight (anyone done one)
MK locost (but how complete is it)
MK indy (how complete is it)
GTS locost (how good is it)or
Buy chassis only and get bits as needed
Most other kits are out of range money wise unless we can get some reduction on a sponsorship thing.( the end product will be used as a promo for the
college)
most of our students are only here for a year so we hope to complete a car in this time and at the same time do a build diary for all to see on our
website.
Thanks for reading and i hope you come up with some ideas(and some humor as usual)

the robin hood is a complete kit, but the amount of finishing and fitting that's required i wouldn't entertain it, especially with the
students as you've described.
imvho starting off with an mk locost would be the simplest option, do they do a 'deluxe' locost kit? the basic locost kit was certainly
very well priced.

Sounds like a top idea to me!
I think MK built/supplied an Indy to a guy who was injured in a car accident and from personal experience they are very helpful enthusiastic guys.
What about writing a letter to send out to the different manufacturer's to ask if they'd be interested in getting involved and what help
they can offer?
They might also be able to help with donor parts rather than trying to source and strip a donor car.
Hope you get it going!

I believe that Tiger say that they supply everything needed to build an Avon.

I'd also write to the all the manafactures and tell them what you're doing.
You may get some discount in exchange for driving around in a kit with big advertising graphics on it.
Just a thought,

Barrie,
No I don't know anyone who's built a lightweight, but the locost parts they supply and the the 2b/super kits are very rough and ready and
for the money i'm sure the lightweight would be the same. if you're after ease of parts going together robin hood is not for you imho.

What would you do with the completed car?
Could it be sold on at the end to re-coup some of the costs and maybe start a nother build for the following year?

Cheers Ned, end product is more important than kit quaility at this stage (looks like a begging letter to MK anyone know whos in charge there)
Nick we hope to offer it to anyone in the group that build it for costs plus a small amount enough to build another one
or use it as a promo device for the college at open days and shows in the area
thanks for your answers
