Fuel tanks

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so here it be...

What kind of capacity fuel tanks are about for Locosts and their derivatives?

I ask because I've seen somewhere about 5 gallon tanks (I remember that figure for some reason, anyway...).

With a heavy right foot controlling a 3.5 litre BMW engine I'm thinking that isn't gonna take me too far....

Materials? Capacities? Prices?

Cheers.

Rich.

I've got an Aluminium tank from a Caterham for my Stuart Taylor chassis car; it fits a treat. I'm told it's 10 gallon capacity - that should get me about 300 miles between fill ups.

It cost £35 second hand without the guage sender.

I haven't verified the capacity mind!

I made my own tank, leaded steel with claspsed edges (For strength) then soldered it. It's about 20 or 22gauge so is very light, and is very strong. Uses a Metro fuel sender. About 8gallon capicity is an estimation, but I'm not sure.

Chevette Saloon tank(not the hatch), 10 gallon tank fills the whole of the back end, but don't forget mines +4.

£10 from the scrappy, like new cos in the chevette it's between the boot and the back seat.

Might get you between filling stations Hippy!

Cheers

Chris

All very well, but I would guess Chevette saloons aren't exactly 10 a penny in scrap yards nowadays...?

You could allways have someone like PTM make you a plastic one or someone like me make you a stainless or ali tank.

I would say around the £70 mark give or take depends on the spec though...

remember....

ye good olde metric system makes working out volume really easy.

every 10cm x 10cm x 10cm cube is a litre.

So, if yer tank is 20cm x 20cm x 70cm its 28,000cm capacity, or 28 litres.

divide that by 4.54 and yer got gallons = 6.18 in this example.

you can play around with sizes and work out your possibilities.

mines 8.8 gals for what its worth.

Looks like custom built will be the way I go cause I want to be able to at least make 200 miles and 20 mpg is my very rough figure for the complete machine..

Viper...

As soon as I have chassis dimensions I'll decide how much space in the rear I'm gonna fill with the tank and get back to you.

Steve...

Very handy that, saves me looking up the conversion myself...

I'll be back...
