1.) Went to Halfords in Chorley to get a TX40 Torx bit but had sold out so went to Motorworld and got one.
2.) Started to undo the 24x No. Torx bolts holding driveshafts on to Sierra. Broke new Torx socket on second bolt.
3.) Went back to Motorworld for a refund, but gave me another socket instead.
4.) Undid another two bolts and this time the Torx socket twisted so much that it wouldn't hold in the bolt.
5.) Return to Motorworld and insist on a refund. Go to all the local motor factors, nobody has a decent TX40 so go to Halfords Bolton.
6.) Return with meaty looking TX40 (with shorter spines too so it won't twist as easy) only for it to start raining. Give up until Sunday.
7.) Get up bright and early to be told that I'm going shopping. Finally get out to the garage at 2pm.
8.) Remove the rest of the TX40 bolts and all but the cross bolts on the diff - which won't budge. Apply liberal amounts of WD40 and get the
mallet out. An hour later, have diff and driveshafts in the garage!
Now all I have to do is remove the hubs, loom, stearing column and some bits and bobs before the blight on the drive can go to the Sierra graveyard in
the sky!

My 8 month old daughter is seriously limiting play time at weekends, and I'm too knackered in the evenings as I don't get home until 8ish
on most days, so progress has reduced from very little to virtualy none. Most depressing
Still, I managed to convert the bottom of the XE distributor into a blanking plate after a couple of hours on the lathe, and also de-rusted and primed
a few chassis bits and started to clean up the Sierra LSD so that's more than I've done for a while.
Also did an oil change and replaced thermostat on the tintop (hot air from the heater just in time for summer! And it takes less than 30 miles to
warm up now!)

All alternatively just grind off those horrible rusty bolts in 5 minutes and replace with new socket head caps for 2 quid!
I can always be helpful after the fact!
Cheers,
James

Still trying to get mother-in-law settled after four months out of country, so that I can have my GARAGE back and get on with the build. Kit outside
under tarpualin at the mo cos garage full of her debris.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.
