SVA Result

Arsing fail! But not too bad.
3 things wrong: Speedo inaccurate, an make it read ok, but not rest at 0, or rest at 0 but under-read. Think we fixed it tonight, its close, but should be ok.
Tyres: one didnt have a speed rating due to being scrubbed (we were going to get new ones anyway, just never got chance before test but we now have got them!)
Braided hoses from chassis-front caliper touch coilovers on lock. Just a bit of bracket bending needed.

And that was it! Everything else fine. We got our design weight wrong on the form, but we were allowed to correct this, as lots get it wrong apparently. Still disappointing to fail, but at least nothing nasty.

To cheer us up, he said less than 1% pass first time- not sure about that, but also only 80% of Caterhams manage it. He also failed a brand new Mercedes minibus before us, on quite a lot more, so all reassuring.

Alf who did the test is a top bloke, allowed us to cover the couple of extra sharp bits he didn't like, and let us wee about with the speedo a bit to see if we could correct it there. All in all, not bad, and the weather meant the 40 mile drive there was nice too! Cruising round Loughborough, everyone was staring, and about 5 people asked what it was, a bloke in a Westfield waved... heheh

Sounds as though you got an understanding tester. Minor points to fail on. Well done and good luck with the retest.

Hi guys,
Now passed! Shame it was bloody pi**ing it down all day though, got rather cold and wet.
Then visited Nottingham VRO for registration. Job done!

Oh, didn't have to wrap the exhaust up... they never mentioned it? DOes seem daft- shield over the silencer which doesnt get hot anyway, but nothing required over the pipe, which does!

You'd have to ban just about every motorbike in Britain if they insisted on that...

happy motoring!
