Top Gear built Caterham

Not really Locost ( well not at all really ) but thought it may interest some.

Seems this series the Top Gear gang will be building a Cateringvan from scratch!

Should be amusing watching the hamster with a rivet gun and see if clarkson can figure out which end of a torque wrench to hold if nothing else

Hammond used to do Kits and Cruising on Men and Motors years ago and James May has restored bikes and cars. I think Klaxon may be the only one out of his depth.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Am I the only one who LIKES Clarkson???

Sure he's opinionated - but he says what he says and sticks with it

I think Top Gear without him - would be rubbish!

In fact he makes the show!

Just my opinion!

They wont need a rivet gun with a Caterham, surely just an argos socket set and screwdrivers!

Should be interesting though.

Too true.

I like Clarkson. He says what he thinks and sticks to his guns. Good man in my book.

He says they should put wires across the road to stop motorcyclists from riding past his house, I thought this was one of the worst things I'd ever heard anyone say on TV. I don't dislike him, I just think he's a bit of a useless lump. Clarkson says whatever he thinks the audience want to hear, he's a Luvvy not a man of the people.
edit:- How long will three of them be able to spin it out for and how much programme time will it get? The interesting stuff usually gets a couple of minutes to fill in between the Koenigseggs and Maybachs or the pointless races to European capitals that Jeremy always wins.

Well I'm a Jezza fan and agree that Top Gear would be rubbish without him. I'm sure there are those who will disagree but Fifth Gear demonstrates this point quite well in my opinion. The only good thing about Fifth Gear is the presence of that sexy little minx VBH!

Did anyone ever see the episode of Top Gear where Jezza tried to go around the Nurburgring in a diesel S-Type jag and was completely out-classed by a German girl (Sabine something?) who is a bit of an expert in driving around the track? Well, I'd say Top Gear could do a lot worse than recruit her for the program to brighten things up...and keep Jeremy on his toes! That's the only thing I would change.

Cheers,
Craig.

The top gear team or at least Clarkson have already built a Caterham . Probably 10 or more ago . Clarckson was as much use as a chocolate tea pot , he doesn't know one end of a spanner from the other and his mechanical knowledge is non existant. I for one would not want him building any car that I was likely to drive ! I know he is just a journalist but there are guys on this forum that have office jobs and have built excellent cars

Should be easy - afterall, the Caterham isn't a kit car. Just ask any Caterham owner.

As a presenter, Clarkson is entertaining enough, if you can put up with his political leanings & some of the trash he spouts. But therein lies the problem. I really think TG could do with some new scriptwriters & ideas people. Last series I found to be pretty repetitive in both dialogue & features. I'm sure Clarkson must be responsible for some of this, if so, perhaps it's time to bring in some fresh minds but keep him as one of the presenters.

I think Clarkson is great.

Read his various articles in the Sunday Times (both driving section and elsewhere) and really enjoy them- there's usually something hilarious written there.
And I've noticed that more and more other journalists are copying his style.

Have to agree that recruiting Sabine Schmidt (sp?) the Nurburgring driver would be a great idea.

Cheers,
James

I know - TG could commission some special spanners that, instead of having different sized heads on each end e.g. 10mm and 11mm, have the same size on each end. Then it wouldn't matter that he couldn't tell one end from the other!

Confused but excited.

I think the point being missed here is that Mr. Clarkson isn't a mechanic or even mechaniclly minded. He's an entertainer and as such does a good job.
I for one, however wouldn't dream of buying a car based on anything he actually said.

I thought the programme was supposed to be reviewing motors for the people who buy cars (read bbc licence tax fee).

Yeah it's amusing, but bear in mind this guy is supoosed to be an expert on recommending cars, and the last three have all been incredibly unreliable.

Re the cateringvan, they turned an espace into a convertible tonight, which was mildy amusing.

And how much of the build will the TG crew actually do? Might be like that Mark Evans thing, where a team of pro's lurked in the background.
