steering rack

I seem to have a small amount of play in my steering rack. I have checked the universal joints etc, everything seems fine, what would you look for next, ware in the steering rack it's self (It's a quick rack). Are they prone to ware?

Probably pay to check the security of your top and bottom ball joints especially if using modified Sierra front hubs as well ?

Leigh, check the small worm screw (where column attaches to rack) This quite often works itself loose. Remove the rack and take it to MK to get it tightened up if you don't have the tool to do it yourself.

It could be play in the rack and pinion gear,or play in the inner ball joints,on the rack,if you get someone to rock the steering, and you watch where the steering shaft goe's into the rack, look for it moving in and out as it turns,if it doe's this, the rack will require ajusting or replacing,to check the inner ball joints, remove the rack gaitors, again get someone to rock the steering, and look for movement in the inner ball joints,if there is excessive movement in these, they will need replacing,if in doubt, take it down to MK,and ask them to check it for you
