You don't need MOT or insurance to get number plates made . You need log book(V5) showing vehicle in your name ,picture driving licence or passport and a recent utility bill in your name showing address. I think a bank statement MAY be OK in place of last item. You used to be able to get "show plates" made up without all this but not sure if you can now . Try your local car radiator specialists, motor factors , garage or accessory shop to get them made

I know my Brother-in-law had some 'show plates' made up the other week, so I think you can still do it, although he does have a personalised number. Maybe more difficult if you have a normal number to make up? I think there are plenty of sites on the web who do this service.

JoelP beat me too it with a link ^^^

I got some show plates which were stickers form my local sign makers. Sorted overnight and fairly cheap.

Got my Show plate (Bike size) for the front from Newark Show. A full plate costs me about 1/3rd of my Rad Cooling area. Small Bike plate one solved the rising temperatures in stationary traffic in that hot weather.

Its good and plain and easily read, whilst not legal, I have seen worse plates with funny fonts and mis-spaced letters which IMHO are much worse
