Testing of new car?

Taking into account that my car is never going to see the road, where have other people tested their car out. I was thinking about going to Morrison's car park on a Sunday evening (using trailer of course) to check everything works ok. But dont know how I stand on a legal footing, would be a awful shame to have my car siezed and crushed by the Rozzer's...

I would like to check the gears all select, the car pulls and brakes work before paying £120 to do a trackday or £90 for a Mallory test session.

Does anybody know of anywhere in the Derbyshire area where I can give her a shake down?

I'm pretty sure that you can't legally do what you have suggested. Probably best to see if there is a local airfield that will let you do it, or if you happen to know someone who has there own private road.

Cheers

Airfields are you're answer here. Nice long runways for speed runs and plenty of space to find faults in! Any roads will need a legal car, or some lookouts and a fast towing vehicle!

If it were me, I'd trailer it upto somewhere like Elvington (when Javelin are doing a trackday at the top end of the airfield) with no intention of taking it on track. Unload it and drive it up and down the runway that isn't being used. I doubt anyone would question what you were upto, as long as you weren't doing donuts or anything daft. If anyone should question you, just say that you took the car up on the off-chance that there was a spare place on track available but your car doesn't appear to be running quite right at the moment.

If you've been to Elvington before, you'll know just how easy this is

its ilegal but we all do things

so id take it to a local big ind estate thats quiet on a sunday or something have a few look outers

then if anyone comes dont rush for the trailer etc that looks daft, just slow it down a bit and go slow make it look like your testing

they probably be more interested

I was told that a certain ECU mapping company (no names no pack drill) regularly take their unregistered cars around their industrial estate to sort out the power runs !

Personally I cringe at the thought of taking someone else's car (of unknown build quality) and hooning around a busy industrial estate !

As already mentioned, far more sensible to phone your local airfield. They will often insist that you wear a helmet but that's sensible in my book. 100% legal too - just imagine what would happen in the event of an accident without insurance too.
