Nurburgring, Berlin, Amsterdam holiday....
Hey!
In the summer myself and a few friends are looking to drive to Berlin for a couple of days and then to the Nurburgring for the weekend and then spend
a couple of night in Amsterdam before driving home.
It most likely ill be doing this all in a MK Indy (...should be interesting lol!) my main concern is leaving the car somewhere over the nights....im
guessing that it should be fine at the nurburgring as there all setup for crazy cars being there etc. But any recomendations for where to stay/what to
do with the car when im in Amsterdam/Berlin. It wont have a roof on and want to stay in the centre of town to enjoy the "life" but dont
want to come out and find the car stolen/vandalised as its mint atm and know from past experience how kids love to try and wreck these cars.
ideas?

Hmm - sounds like a cool trip. Book hotels with underground car parks. Have no direct experience I'm afraid.

Firstly, welcome to the mad house
I've not been to Berlin so can't comment there, but I wouldn't leave my pride and joy out on the streets of Amsterdam over
night
No offense to any of our dutch friends on this site - I'm worried more about the drunk Brits there for a stag night
I would suggest you look for a hotel with it's own car park - perhaps an underground one?

I used to leave mine parked up in town centres all the time, uncovered, from time to time I evn left the keys in lol!
Never had anyone ever mess with it, I think kids think they're cool so they're more likely to vandalise an expensive merc or beemer or
something.
Any one else have a different experience??

Amsterdam has a lot of underground car parks (public, but good security). I would say use one of them... If you have a detachable steering wheel, that
would also help!

An underground carpark would definitely be preferable but you could try some more traditional methods if you really have to leave the car on the
street:
1) Get a car bag and cover it up. Preferably a dingy colour and a bit dirty so it doesn't draw any attention to itself.
2) Get a wheel clamp to put people off knicking it.
3) Remove the steering wheel if possible, or else use a crook-lock.
They should help to put people off taking it for a joyride
Pete
EDIT: Oh and leave your keys somewhere safe while you're out on the p*ss!

thanks for the replies so far guys! I was thinking along the lines of an underground carpark.
also after speaking to other people....maybe find a container/short term storage over there (cant see any on the net!) or another kitcar lover who
would grage it for a couple of nights!
going to look around for a underground carpark
im guessing at the nurburgring people jsut leave there cars everywhere at the hotels as everyone is used to it?

The main problems with city centre parking i have had i when people DO think its cool so have to sit in it!
They other night i had it outside my flat, with the bedroom window open!
Heard alarm blipping its warn away jobby. Looked out and there were two blokes saying 'let's get in...........etc'
Then the alaram when into full force as one of them sat in it. One got spooked, jumped out and decided to kick my nearside rear wing!
I couldnt believe it. and then to top it off they got back in again, this time 'gently'!
So i got dressed and went down stairs.....................
the conclusion to this story, as far as i am concerned, was fully justified. But i am curious to see what other people would have done at this
point.
Bare in mind i got down to the street to see two drunks sat in my scratch built Locost, one of which had just kicked it!

Give them the keys, they could do much more damage to themselves than I ever could, and then I'd have some lovely insurance money to build
another project

Hi mate,
I went last year on bike (a new 600RR) with my brother on his bike, and mate in his Golf GTi.
we stopped in Lille 1 night, then to the ring for 3 nights, then Brussels for last 2 nights - awesome trip, seriously.
If I was doing it again, I would go straight to the Ring, for 2 or 3 nights (dependant on ring opening times), and then straight to Brussels.
we stopped in a Holiday Inn, in Lille and Brussels, as in Europe, they mostly have underground car parks, so that was cool for our bikes, just like it
would be for everyones kit's. But at the Ring we stopped here, http://www.slidersguesthouse.com
the guy who owns it is English and named Brendan, he is an awesome bloke, and if you check out his website, you will see a couple of Damn fast
laps!
I am not on comission or anything daft, I just felt like it was a good cheap (slightly basic) place to stay - large nice beers were $2 and full
breakfast was $4 can't really argue with that.
He is located in the quietest little village about 8-9 miles from the ring, and has never taken his keys out of any of his bikes....

one word of warning - ground clearance if you're going in an underground car park.
I've never done it - it just occured to me as a potential issue

I would also say underground car parks. Or if you can Hotels with secure underground car parking. Most Ibis hotels in city centres have them.
I wouldnt leave my car uncovered on the driveway over night.
We went over to amsterdam in a campervan, we parked up in a car park in the centre of the city and couldnt get the boot to close as the lock kept on
sticking. In the end the car parking attendant said dont worry, he would look after it for us. It was out second day and because everyone there was so
friendly we trusted him.
Maybe if you had to leave it in town for a day you could slip the attendand 5 euros to keep an eye on it.

Had asimilar experience a few years ago when a mate was staying over at my old flat. We were having an after the pub drink and heard someone outside
the window. When we looked out (1st floor) we saw this drunk bloke trying to pull the wing mirror off my mate's new Civic. I was all for
getting abucket of water to freshen the bloke up a bit, but my mate was outside having a quiet word before I could find a bucket.
Let's just say that the wing mirror was saved, but the offender was not
I hope you gave your locost squatters reason not to do it again

Well they did seem rather apologetic by the end of it. Partly i suppose because they realised they were in the wrong. But also i guess because i must
have looked like a bull seeing red. That combined with my ginger hair must have made an impression of a rather pissed off and uptight bloke.
Lesson learnt by them? Dont come between a man and his baby!

BTW parking is not funny in Amsterdam. About 2 Euri's one hour parking.
So look for a hotel including "garage-box"
prices and places to park
