Pinto 1/4mile times?

Hey guys,
Wondering roughly what sort of times a pinto powered locost will do on the drag strip. There used to be a post with some times, but I can't seem to find it. Mine will be a 2.3L lima (bigger pinto).
Thanks.
Cory

What HP
do you expect to get out of the lima if its normally aspirated. It should be pretty equivilant to the UK pinto in that form.

Thanks

Good to see the Pintos holding their own against more modern engines!

Didn't know lima/pintos made horsepower. Maybe donkey or llama power?
Yes, it should be pretty close to what a european pinto makes. All I have planned is custom intake/exhaust, light flywheel and eventually cam it. Not going to be drag racing this thing, just trying to get an idea of what the acceleration will be like.

Thanks Mark. I looked but damned if I could make it pop up with a search. You remember what your MPH was on that (fairly impressive for a pinto) 14.1ET?

Yes, my 2 favorite things are curvy girls and curvy roads so it's the perfect avatar for me .
Cheers.

As a rough guide to acceleration, with the right diff and gear ratios a std Pinto (2.0l) should get to 60 between 6 and 6.5 secs.

Std ish 2.0l with reworked head and decent cam can get this down to around 5.5 - 6.0 secs.

Once you get to well built 2.0's and 2.1's you can get under 5.5.

Of course this is all down to launch technique, tyres, total vehicle weight etc but does show that they result in a very respectable sports car.

Marks is a very well built 2.0 and puts out some amazing times. They guy how did the machining is fanatical about detail (eg the block was bored with a deck plate bolted to it to ensure the bores are round when the head is refitted etc). He is also known locally for very good head work.

Pinto's will never be in the same league as BECs but nevertheless respectable for their simplicity and cost.
