Toyo R888s in the wet

If I buy a set, will I kill myself if it starts raining or are they still OK on wet roads? Opinions from anyone who's got 'em on a seven gratefully received

Hi Matt
They're ok if you drive sensibly.

We did a trackday with the R888's in the pouring rain and the amount of grip was quite surprising. They're obviously not the ideal wet weather tyre but they're not as bad as you'd think.

Just drive appropriately for the conditions. They need heat to work best which is obviously difficult on the wet. The only real problem is standing water as there are less tread blocks and sips to dissapate the water. Don't drive too quickly and don't don't over react if you do hit some water, let the car do what it wants with some gentle guidance!

That's from over two years use of R888s and now with 260BHP and no traction control or LSD

Thanks for the opinions guys. I don't tend to press on much in the wet as the car's fairly 'snappy' at the best of times! Just seem to end up doing far more trips than I would like in pis*ing rain and want to make sure things won't get to slippery (Nurbugring and back earlier in the year was almost all rain and Bristol-Anglesey and back on August BH weekend looks set to be the same going by this year's weather so far - would like to enjoy the Welsh twisties as much as possible )

Will probably go for a set as they're sure to be phenominal in the dry compared to road tyres and dry is what the car's all about really. What's the wear rate like? How many miles out of a set?

I did a track day at Oulton a few months back. On a wet track, with no real standing water, I was quite suprised by the amount of grip they gave. Dont think they'd cope well with puddles though!
