Airfield Testing

In the back of Rons book, it might be the second edition only. He has the story about after he finishes his car, and about him testing it on an airfield. He said he knew the owner of the airfield. Does anyone know of an airfield this is possible. Prefreably in the southeast. I was thinking if there was a charge then if a few of us wanted to go, we could all chip in. It would be a good way to set up the car, test the brakes, and run the engines in, in a safe place.

Any thoughts?

Well it was definitely in the first edition, but apart from that I can't help you...

..not that the above was helpful at all...

Why not just pay your £99 for an airfield track day?? Motorsport Events run lots at airfields. Not many in the southeast though

We asked around some airfield nearby, they murmured about health and safety, insurance, noise levels, etc etc, generally unhelpful. I forget where it was, somewhere a bit southeast of us here.

Would love to help but the airfield doesn't shut

And you would not want to get in the way of these bad boys.

Will ask around at work and see if anyone knows of anywhere.

Dan.

I know its not in the south east but you can pay your £45 and have the airfield to do as you wish here:-

There is one in Northumberland (I know that is only classes as the south east if you live at Cape Wrath) which you can just drive into - it is mainly farm land and there is a sign on the gate saying it is OK to use for learning to drive but the speed limit is 30mph or something like that.

I could probably find a grid reference if anybody wants it.

I have been testing on the rally drive track. It is very good value for money and it is a nice twisty track

£45 plus V.A.T. or in sensible language £52.87. Wouldn't mind having Ruth to do with as I wish!
I was toying with the idea of askuing my employers if I could trundle round the site roads at work but I'm sure the dreaded insurance/coporat eliability will come into play. That havingbeen said there are some very quiet roads leading from my village to, well, nowhere and we don't have a village copper either

i was thinking about bovingdon, but they normally have stuff on. Probably not on weekdays though. that one in northumberland sounds ideal. If only it wasnt 300 miles away!
