N.East Karting
Any owner drivers in the NE? My boy, bless 'Im, (more toys!) has just bought a kart. There are half a doz of us in the area doing kart
"trackdays" at either Teesside or Warden Law.
It's a really cheap day, W/Law is £25 and Teesside £20 for the whole day. Kart uses a miserly gallon or so of fuel.
We're sticking to the lower powered machines, either twin engined Prokarts or World formula single engined jobbies. So far we have three of
each in our little group. They can be picked up for around £500 to £800. Ours was £675, with two sets of tyres, wets and slicks, plus a stand.
Pete on board his (our!) kart:
And a wee bit of video from Warden Law last Sunday is HERE
...that's me stuttering round in the wet at the start, it later dried out, and the speeds crept up a bit.
So, any more karters out there?

I think I'd need a CAR engine in one of those
"That thing you're thinking - it wont be that."

Snap! I seem to remember doing a karting event just after the ne7ers trackday one year. Came honking round the long 180 bend, forgetting the kart
track turns sharp right! Woooooaaaaahh!

The little 200cc Briggs and Stratton is hardly a bike engine! suprised me though, I think the rev limiter cuts in at 7000rpm. We are talking serious
power here, 14bhp!!

I once saw two guys on identical honda karts, both dead slow but they were having a right laugh with super close racing.
I think that sounds a great idea though, a few of you with identical karts so its down to good drivrs rather than anything else.
Have fun lads!

That's the plan! The karts are fast enough for fun, but hopefully not fast enough to seriously injure anyone. Having said that I cracked
some ribs in a hire kart a couple of years back, dont remember that being much fun!

Takes me back, I spent 6 years racing both world formula, twin honda's and then the 250cc Bilands at Warden Law and Teeside.
After retiring from karting the kit car was the nearest thing to replacing all that fun, still miss the competion though.
If you need any help let me know, I did manage a few trophys along the way so it won't be bull****... lol...

I'm sure we need loads of help, we're just playing about at the moment..
We had one problem at Warden law last Sunday. The brake had just been fitted with new pads, and the peddle had very little free movement.
In the first session, the brake started dragging badly. We got round the problem by fitting spacers to the caliper, and backing off the cable a
little. The brakes were fine for the rest of the day, but I doubt if it's set up correctly.
Is there any on line tech help available for such stuff?

This is a great forum for help and advice, also the search function will be helpful for old posts and tech stuff.
Sounds like you did the right thing, keep an eye out for any axle movement aswell, they can slip in the bearings and the disc will bind up.

Five or six of us will be at Teesside tomorrow. (Sunday) Weather forecast not looking too bad..
Have made up a camera mount, to see if we can get any on board footage. Not sure if it'll work, there could be too much vibration.
We'll see!

Been thinking about buying one but there are so many different types! I have seen those twin engine ones which are powered by some sort of lawnmower
engines and the single engines ones.
Now i have found ones called "Shifter karts" which seem to be really quick!
I really want one of those but i bet they cost a few quid!
How fast are the twin engined ones? What are the engines like?
Where do i start looking for engines/chassis?
Oh dear it allready making my head hurt!
Anyone used any other engines? Ie not 1000cc CBR's lol!

I dont think I qualify as a karting expert, but, the whole point of the karts we have was to keep the performance levels the same. They dont need
to be hugely fast, someone would just end up getting hurt. Besides the faster karts I'd guess, need more tinkering to keep them running right.
We have three "World Formula" 200cc single engined karts, and three twin 160 engined Prokarts in our bunch. There's not much
between them in speed, probably in the region of 50mph flat out, but the fun is in the corners!

Teeside today. Started damp, dried out completely, and ended the day in a downpour under floodlights!
...and, had a go mounting the camcorder to the kart. Not a complete success, but I reckon if we turn off the autofocus next time, it could work
better..
On board a kart round langbaurgh
Oh, and then there was this beast..

And, by added a bit of damping to the camera mount, have managed to keep the camera in focus this time.
