Prescription Saftey Glasses
Hi All
I had my eyes tested the other day and apparently I need reading specs.
As a welder it's probably more important to me to have a pair of safety specs, not only for
welding but using the lathe, reading verniers, sharpening drills etc.
The opticians (D & H) will only supply to a company, not to a private individual so I'm after
a localish optician that sells "proper" (not reading specs with plastic sides) safety eyewear.
Can anyone help, recommend anywhere?
(Cambridge, Bury St Eds, Colchester, etc)

why not buy a normal pair of glasses and then wear safety goggles which will fit round the whole of the glasses. That's what we used to do at
school when working in the workshops.

Mate i think Boots do them. Worth looking at arco etc aswell.
Theres a place in Felixstowe that definatley do as thats where i have to go to get them for my work.

Not the same thing, but I got my current glasses for about 70% of the retail just after they'd come out... The lens quality is the dog's
danglies.

You can get corrective clear lenses for your welding screen, I've tried them and they make me feel dizzy and sick. If you can see everything you
need to at work without, then stick to your normal safety glasses/goggles and use your "proper" glasses only when you really need to.
Nothing worse than spunking a load of money on prescription safety glasses and then scratching them in the first week. How do I know? And they
aren't spatter proof either.
DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

Hi All.
I'd just like to say a big thanks to everyone that replied to this thread, CHEERS!
I parked up this afternoon in town and headed off to Boots.
I had to pass Specsavers so I called in. They only do what I call "visitors safety glasses" that may look nice,
but are not practical for use in the garage. The deputy manager however was an angel, said that Boots
did them when she used to work there. Off to Boots then.
They had exactly what I wanted, tight fitting on the nose and sat on my cheeks a treat.
Believe it or not they are called "Boots Safety" 
I bought a pair of bog standard reading specs as well and it came to £74.80 for the two.
Can't wait to see what a weld looks like. Who knows, it may even up my standard.

SpecSavers do do them, but on special order, as the lenses are made to the type of spec (safety-wise) you need.
Perhaps it's only the larger branches..... 
Anyway you are sorted, and at a very good (locost) price...excellent.

Thanks Fozzie.
With safety glasses the fit is more important than the price, (like crash hats) hence I didn't want to order from the net.
As for larger branches, that's the penalty I pay for living in a little village, near a little town, but I wouldn't swop that for
anything.
