How much money and time did all of you lot use?
Hi, this topic has probably been said more times than any other, but I'm just looking into building a locost and I need to know how much to budget
for. I'm not wanting to race or have a supercar, but is £250 anywhere near realistic? Also how long did it take?

IMO, a nice looking car could be built for under 1K and inside a year.....
I spent more and took longer....

My ideal budget is £1500 and I reckon I'm on target. I have, however, taken far longer to even get to (almost) rolling stage... nearly 18 months
already! Still, I've got 1001 other projects on the go (including keeping this site up to date and adding all the features you lot want!!) - that's
my excuse anyway!

i have spent over 3k so far and probably 500 hrs. But then my car isnt standard - i get fed up with saying that....

250 quid is way way way out as to be completly pathetic unless you live next door to a steel works and have a panel van ready to cut up. read edition
one of the book and see what you think.
1.5 - 3k seems the norm

I've just inherited an old Lotus seven.
(totally complete and running)
Do you think I can hit the 250 target using parts from it?

I took just a year and spent about £1500. I spent another £800 building a shed and wiring it so I could build the car.

I'm on around £2k, but that includes having to buy a welder and a few wasted items. . .

I'm at 2 years and £1200.
That includes an old chassis built out of 3mm box(what can I say it was cheap), second engine rebuild( 1st was a 2.8 V6 on carbs and doesn't that
make the engine tall when you add an air filter)
All in all not doing to bad, as work sends me away for 4 out of 12 months a year.
But persavere and untold joy can be yours.

Built,SVA'd and registered for £1800ish and took 10 months. 13 months and certain improvements now means it stands at around £3000 and worth every
penny! And it gets used regularly unlike some!!!!!

Just a general question really and I don't want to offend anyone but having read through the site there seems to be a number of negative comments
about the products of Robin Hood Engineering - no relation honestly.
I am attempting to talk wife into letting me build a Locost and a friend of mine is about to do the same but using a RHE SubK kit which he believes
will be cheaper/better/quicker in the long run. Who's right??
Answers on a postcard please or on the back of a £5 note from 50 of you will do and then I can build the car for £250!

a 1/2 decent home built locost is better (IMO), others will say different, its personal choice at the end of the day, i live 15 mins from RB's
workshop, been there several times, found them to be anything from welcoming to not wanting to know....
for example an MK indy kit would be 100% better not sure of costs though ??? boys.... ?

1 year as only bin able to work at weekends due to work/uni, just electrics, interiour and paint, oh not forgetting the SVA!! have spent just over 4K
budget was 2K but ive gone for the theory im only doing it once so the £650 wheels, £400 dials and the best that i can afford for everythin else is a
good investment and i think that it looks worth every penny! Thank go for student loans!!!!
