Tyre choice

Looking at tyres for my seven, it will be used for trackday and weekend fun only.

Looking at either

Yokohama A539's or A048-R's

apparently the A032-R's are discontinued ?

or is their a better tyre ?

What do people think ?

If you want awesome grip on the track at the expense of being slightly "skitty" on the roads get some Avon ACB10s. Get them set up right when it comes to camber angles though. £90 a tyre new, £20 a tyre used.

A032's have been around ages, and are pretty much tried and tested, and from what I hear are really good tyres. Can't comment on whether they are discontinued though. ~£60 a tyre new.

Don't know too much aout the 48's as they are relatively new, but I have heard good things and the tread on them looks cool! Probably slightly more money than the 32s?

Wouldn't recomend 539s for amazin grip, but they are cheap, useable road tyres. ~£35 a tyre

The A032-R's are still listed as in stock at tirerack.com. I've never used them on a clubman, but I've had better luck with inexpensive Kumho's than the lower end of Yokohama's line.

George Polley is said to be one of the best around for reasonable prices on Yoko tyres. Give them a bell, they usually do good deals if buying all 4 tyres.

Cheers,
Oli

thanks

so consensus is to forget the 539s and go for the A032-Rs or A048-Rs.

I had already contacted the Polley people for prices etc just wasn't sure which tyre to go for.

like I said trackday and dry weekend toy so I want as much grip as possible for my money. I won't be doing high mileages so soft compounds aren't an issue (although I appreciate that you could wear a set of tyres out on a single track / airfield day)

yoko ao21-R

Similar compounds to the a032r but with a more wet tread pattern, loads of grip compared to most tyres a little less than the 32 cos its got deeper tread so they last longer. And the best bit, half the price of 32's

I've found Toyo Proxes to be good on my road car. Will probably get them to the Viento when I get around to fitting the real wheels.

Have Proxes on my MR2, very sticky even with standard suspension. Can't wait to get my solid suspension on

The 021s are really good tyres I'd agree, and for 173 quid for 4 all in, a bargain

Cheers,
Oli
