Locostbuilders ain't what they used to be
Dunno if I'm just getting old but had an unpleasant experience for the first time in many years of being on here from a "fellow
locostbuilder."
I was selling some Princess 4 pot calipers at a keen price hopefully to help some one out on here, initially guy wanted to pay less but I suggested
that sending them insured was a good idea and there comes a point where it is easier just to keep the things! We agreed to paypal gift the money which
he didn't do. I sent the goods and he happily received them and said he would send over the difference. guess what? He has disappeared.
It isn't the amount of money but the fact that he is on here where generally people behave well and can be trusted much more than in the real
world that is irritating.
I could have sold calipers 4 x over including a local mechanic so don't feel that I should take a hit from this bloke. I don't want to
name and shame but hope this isn't a new development that we are going to see any more of!
All the best

I would definatly name and shame so it doesnt catch somebody else out in the future if he tried to pull the wool over somebody elses eyes.

I've been stung a few times by fellow Locosters but that won't stop me from helping anyone else. I guess that's why I'll
always be skint and have loads of friends (when they need something).
I've posted a few items on loan and never seen them again. So far:
Metro handbrake.
M14 tap.
M16 tap.
1/2" BSPT tap.
Harness eye bolts x4.
Four Revolution wheel nuts.
Fiat TC thermostat housing.
DR350 Cdi unit.
If anyone feels the need to return my trinkets, please do.

Tbh it's just a public forum not a members club and no different from any other site, just protect yourself and ask for the money in full before
sending anything. You got stung cos you trusted someone you've never even met which was a tad naive

That sucks - whilst on the whole most people on here are genuine and honest, there's always that one.
Maybe we should sell via buy it now links on ebay - take the hit on fees but at least have some Paypal protection? Give him a few days to sort things
out.

I'm with Mr Grumpy & Owelly on this one. Its nice to be nice and its good to do stuff which benefits everyone without immediate and direct
personal gain. We used to be into property development and the neighbors thought we were nuts because we used to decorate the common areas, tidy and
weedkill the surrounding streets. Not a direct gain but when we sold we always sold quick and at top dollar.
Still would be nice to know the thieving barstewards name so I can avoid being a tad naïve on a future occasion
Cheers!
You'd be surprised how quickly the sales people at B&Q try and assist you after ignoring you for the past 15 minutes when you try and start a
chainsaw

The cross section of any group has a percentage of ingrates, unfortunately. This is a free access forum effectively, there's no control over who
gets to see it and all you can really do is rely on higher post counts to assume people are nicer (strange correlation but at least they won't
have been banned or annoyed folk to the point of not talking).
Don't let it colour your view of people, but personally I'd always ask for full cash up front before delivery - anyone who's getting
a bargain or major favour should be aware of it and be willing to do anything to help.

I think this reflects the country in general now.
I remember an issue at work where I wouldn't tow the company line.
The owner of the company came to discuss it and couldn't comprehend my stand.
I told him that to me it was a matter of principle.
He replied saying that principles are OK as long as they don't cost you money.

Just had to have a quick check on that list to see if I'm guilty - I don't think so though!
I sent a set of bike mirrors to someone on here once for free to help them out with SVA. I was most disappointed when said member then sold them on
here, quoting the supposed price he 'paid' for them new
I've also had people advertise things at a certain price, then totally renege on it later, going as far as to edit their original post to
disguise the error. Just shows the depth of character, where a simple explanation of changed mind and mistake made would have been fine.
I'll still help people out if/when I can though, with the exception of a couple of individuals...

I've actually got nothing but good things to say about the people on here, but I guess as said above it's a public forum so there's
bound to be a couple of bad eggs.
I'd agree with naming and shaming; it's a good way of helping preventing it from happening again! Just wait until you're sure there
is an issue, if that makes sense.
If disfunction is a function, then I must be some kind of genius.

Touch wood. I've had zero trouble with loads of transactions thru LCB. Both buying, selling and lending. The OP of this thread has also helped
me out where local firms wouldn't with some turning work. Don't lose the faith just yet!
Apart from the usual ebay idiots the most trouble I've had is when placing ads on gumtree for free, as in I'm giving away. I've had
people asking would I include delivery/assembly er no it'd FREE. People complaining something wasn't in mint condition, er it's
FREE. The last one was for a garden shed. Disassembled neatly sat on a pallet, all the screws in a bag. Several photo's of how it goes together
and they moaned it was disassembled! It was bloody FREE
So all in all I'd much rather do business on here

what a shame, lets hope there is a legitimate reason for the late payment for the OP.
I agree I've always been very pleased with everyone I have dealt with on here, either buying or selling. but true, you takes your gamble.

Hi Thanks for the replies I haven't given up on the people here at all and after the time I have been on here I recognise lots of names
although we have never met.
My wife is in the Whippy club and there could well be naivety issues but as stated this is a first so I have done Ok so far!
I am not expecting any response from the bloke so don't go buying any popcorn. I will stick his name up in the next couple of days just to help
out some one else I sent him a message saying to take a look on here but clearly there must be some thing wrong with his phone or he is very busy at
his 24/7 job so hasn't been able to reply.

Not sure I would 100% agree; a large post count is just that. I've sold a few items and made a couple of things for people on here at a loss
i.e. at cost as it was not taking my time into my account but don't believe it has anything to do with my excessive pots count.
There perhaps should be feedback section (see retrobike.co.uk for example) which would be more representative.
oh, as an aside, are the princess callipers compatible with Cortina mk 4 uprights and discs? If yes, do you know diameter of the pistons?

No problem, just my opinion.
But I think the point you're making supports it?
You've been around a long time and as such you build a rapport with individuals and the group as a whole.
In doing so people build an opinion of one's demeanour , knowledge and reliability in general and I think that counts for something?
Would I buy a used car from you? No way

Not sure re size of pistons as they have gone, back in the old Skool days they were the things to have as an upgrade but they were very heavy at
about 10 kg a pair I know you can get spacers to split them then use wider discs as widely available on e bay etc. There will be plenty of detail on
Turbos port or Old Skool Ford.
Significantly the bloke who now owns the calipers is rebuilding a Capri and had a post count of 0!

Modest that you don't see it that way. It just shows how much of a nice guy you are! !
I would certainly trust an active high posting member over a low count. They have more to loose if nothing else.

Found the same someone kicked off about the free calipers I posted cos I made £1.12 on the postage so he wanted it back and he couldn't fit the
new pots so said they had been a waste of time. The pots cost me £20 and the calipers i gave him free. Cheeky ba**ard

I've never had any problem buying or selling on LCB, one thing I check though is whether or not the person is a 'Contributor' if
they have paid top use the website then generally you would assume them to be willing to pay for part. Its telling that every comment on this thread
is from a 'contributor'
Conversely I have noticed that the members who regularly hijack/ruin/argue threads to death are not contributors to the site.

As others have already said, I have never had any problems buying or selling anything on here over the years. I too use the post count as a kind of
feedback tool, I wouldn't hand over any cash to any body that has a zero post count.
I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Making a fuss over £1.12?!
Surely that is just payment for your time/effort/fuel in taking the parts to the post office or waiting around for the courier to collect them.
