Variation on suspension design

I've just caught a video about the Elio P4, and while the car seems like 'just another eco car', I did notice the front suspension;

(Apologies for the link, I did try and add a picture instead but it is huuuge!)

It seems like an interesting way of mounting inboard suspension, as well as moving it out of the way of the driveshafts.

That's a 'classic' pullrod arrangement, as used by McLaren in the 1970's, among others.
