Megajolt progamming help required.

I have built myself a megajolt unit but am having problems loading the configaration to it.
The problem I have is that when trying to update the configaration the PC cannot communicate with the controller. I have used a blank 68hc908kx8 microcontroller and loaded the boot loader file to it with a homebuilt programmer.I then put the chip in the megajolt and connect to the pc, the pc can communicate and read the default config and runtime from the megajolt. As soon as i try to change the configaration file and upload to the megajolt it stops communicating .The only way I can re establish communication is by reflashing the chip in the programmer.
I think it could be due to the security settings on the processor but not certain , i cant see any other reason for it to behave in this manner other than the configartion file being corrupted somehow.
I have asked this question on the megajolt forum but have still had no reply, I am now completely stuck and cant make progress until i resolve the fault so any sugestions would be appreciated.
Paul.

you tried uploading new firmware once the chip is installed in the MJLJ? Just guessing really - built mine witha chip from Brent and it communicates fine.

You are talking about the MJLJ right? Brent Picasso will be at my house tomorrow. he is vacationing close to my place. If I can remember, I will ask him to sit at the PC and give you some advice.

Steve.
That would be ideal, and much appreciated.I have a feeling that I have not programmed the microcontroller correctly, I have burned the S.19 file to it but am now beginning to wonder if the boot loader to allow reflashing in the megajolt is included in the file. I have tried adding it to the prcessor in the programmer but cant get a successful copy to the chip.
The annoying thing is I ordered 4 PCBs from Brent but didnt bother to buy the preprogrammed chip as i had a few blanks and was convinced I could flash them myself.
Im now stuck and want the car back on the road for the 1st of April after the winter upgrades, and want to start planning the megasquirt installation next.

At last, I have managed to get it to work.
I was correct in guessing that the boot loader was not included in the S.19 file.
I have finally worked out how to use the Dos hc08 programmer and loaded the boot and s.19 files and it now works.
All I have to do is escape to the garage tommrow and install on the car.

That's great news Paul.

Brent was over today and I told him to get over to this website to take a look at your problem. But since he is on vacation he has only intermittent Internet access this week. I am glad you figured it out.

Hi Paul,

I regret that you had to thrash about so much trouble shooting the problem. But I'm happy you figured it out!

yes, the way I program the chips is that I burn the bootloader first, then use the bootloader to load in the MJLJ firmware. A side benefit from the process is that it proves the chip can be field upgradable.

You should try the beta firmware- I'm close to making it the next released version!

Related to troubleshooting, I've added a troubleshooting guide to the MJLJ website, here: http://picasso.org/mjlj/?q=book/view/354

Oh! and by the way Steve's project is quite a sight to behold first hand... It is truly inspired!
