kitcar mags - regurgitated articles
saw that there was an article on the vauxhall xe in totalkitcarmagazine, so went and relieved myself of £4.95 at lunchtime to find its basically the
same as articles thats been in PPC over the last few issues condensed into one article, by the same author (Dave Walker).
thought it was a bit disappointing, then thought I'd look at some of the other leadnig articles, such as the cover feature, a comparison of
7's which turns out to be near enough an identical feature to the one in which kit which until recently I've had a subscription to (though
they keep sending it to me and never answer the phone when i've tried to ring them on numerous ocassions!).
I also gather that which kit has a rather close link to a certain bmw based cobra replica as well, nice objective reporting, but guess what's
the main article in this month's which kit??!!
think i'll leave the kit mags alone from now on and stick with PPC that does a much better job than the rest of them put together!
rant over, have a nice day.
Ned.

I gave up buying kit car mags regularly some time ago.
I only buy one now if it has something of real interest - this hasn't happened for a few months now!
The 'big two' are mostly adverts and rarely have anything new - the technical stuff is frankly poor.
PPC is definitely the only one to get my money at the moment

Kit car mags = old useless adverts and Nigel "Im so clever" D**n's top tips on polishing things up. They are all frankly crap now.
PPC is the first mag since my Mk1 Golf days that has got me to take out subs. I cant praise it highly enough.

Aye, i couldn't agree more. I gave up the kit car rags ages ago, because I got annoyed at forking out for a pile of adverts, crap articles and
pretty poor technical stuff.
However, I do have the odd scan through if I can see anything interesting on the cover, or I'm trying to find a supplier of something. Then i
put it back on the shelf in Smiths! tsk tsk...
I've been meaning to get a sub to PPC for a while now. must get round to it! I've heard they had a cracking set of articles on diy
engine management (Megasquirt) which I wouldn't mind having a read of!
Cheers

i have ppc from issue 1 and a sub
Apparantly to buy the set would cost somewhere approaching £60-70 issue 1 went for £25 on ebay
I just hope they can keep the quality coming. they have covered a hell of a lot in 12 months.

I dont think there's enough to say or enough happening in the small world of kitcars, for 2/3 magazines ,the articles are nearly always
lightweight and just skim over things 'cos they dont want to give too much info away really, it's all just advertising.
And the price of magazines is just tooooo high for tightwads like me!!!!!!
So i have to have a quick look in smith's...

I would have more respect for kit car mags if they did'nt write every review as just another big advert, if the car they test is crap then say
so!
Also some of the tech stuff makes me laugh. The best I saw was the response to a question about emissions at the SVA. It went on to say that they
thought it was almost certain that "92-"95 engined cars would soon need a cat to pass the test....This was followed by an advert for a
company selling injection conversions for Zetecs which also would have led people to believe the same crap just to scare people into fitting their
kit.

I used to spend fortunes on kit car and general car mags.
Nowadays I hardly buy any - 'tinternet makes some of them surplus to requirements.
I only buy ones with good editorial comment now. I particularly like Chris Harris and Steve Cropley in Autocar.
Gave up on 'CAR' for some time now - they're a bit 'up themselves'.

Everyone seems to love PPC, and I agree that some of the technical articles are really useful... certainly an order of magnitude better than
I've read in the 2 copies of Kitcar that I've ever bought.
However I thought PPCs roundup of 7s recently was rubbish. There were far too many column inches dedicated to listing the corporate blurb of every 7
manufacturer under the sun, and far too few actually providing any objective information that couldnt be found by flicking thouigh the ads at the
back!
Just my 2p.

im not buying a magazine where one of the so called (twats(editor)) is building a V8 engined P1800 , what a bleeping shame , such an endangered
classic should be left to its own engine and upgrades for the time , theres not so many nice ones of those about .

Agree totally with comments on kit car mags. Will have to give PPC a go. Building a pinto engined locost, I find practical classic very helpful at
times.

Can someone tell me what PPC is please, i have been getting the main two mags for a couple of years now and i'm also getting bored of the same
stories/adverts over and over again. I am finding the slagging match between the two very entertaining though. Always funny when when Kitcars Ian
Ayre goes off on one his political tangents too. Makes me laugh.
