I hate brake pipes!

...just thought I'd share that with you.

Last weekend I filled up the system, and everything was fine apart from one of the rear brake cylinder connectors, which insists on leaking slightly.

I suspect that this was one of the first brake flares I ever made, and it shows... . Either that, or there's something trapped under the flare or the bleed valve. Either way, it's got to be stripped down.

The one thing I am glad about is that I chose to use DOT5 silicone brake fluid, otherwise I'd be repainting the brake backing plate this coming weekend...

...as it is, I think I'll have to make a new brake pipe...

David

The favorite trick is to make a good pipe, with good flares, offer it up to the car having made all the bends perfectly - and find you have put one of the unions on back to front.

I can usually get up to 13 unique, and different expletives out in one breath, its quite difficult normally, try it at home without rehersing!

Well, I think I fixed it this evening - had to replace the pipe (which was the one with the most complicated shape, of course ) - time will tell whether it's going to start dribbling again.

Trouble is, I lost a good cupful of my brake fluid over the floor! And yes - I did do all the things you're supposed to do, to avoid losing fluid (they didn't work). You can't clamp braided flexible pipes either. Oh yes - I also knocked over the jar I was using while bleeding the brakes. Argh!
Now I'm really glad I didn't use glycol-based brake fluid!

Cleaning the garage floor will have to wait until the weekend!

David

I thought it was Rachel?

Or am I confused?

Or do you have 2 wives?

Or 1 wife and a mistress.

Or a wife and mistress and a donkey called George.

Not forgetting the sacrificial chicken and the virgin in a white dress.

And the token black man.

LOL!

Metal Hippy, confused? That'll be the day! All of the options please...

Talking about Rachel, I was cleaning the loft out the other day with the wife.

All dusty, smelly and full of cobwebs. But she's good with the kids!

Anyhow, best dash before i get my head kicked in.

Mark

Forgive my stupidy but what difference would it have made if you'd spilt normal brake fluid on the floor as opposed to DOT5?

Apart from the cost? (the biggest issue!)

The fact that it doesn't strip paint off everything it touches. Also, it's not poisonous.

It's wierd stuff - EVERY ONE of my tools has a slippery greasy feel to them, even though I've wiped them several times.

In fact I have so little to do, I actively choose not to read locostbuilders outside of office hours so that I have something to do at work!
