New Book

I've got the new book on back order with Amazon and it's showing estimated delivery 18/19 Jan. Does anyone happen to know whether this sounds about right?

Quote from the Amazon link above....

quote:

This all-new colour book provides a step-by-step, extensively illustrated guide to building a two-seater, open-top sports car using standard tools, basic skills and low-cost materials. The down-to-earth text shows how to make the chassis, suspension components and bodywork, and advises on how to modify and use cheap but serviceable mechanical components from a Ford Sierra donor vehicle. The end product is a budget-priced, high-performance sports car - and a learning experience in engineering and design.

is it worth buying the book or just going and getting the rorty locost IRS plans and adapt them to fit the mcsorly book chassis?

i guess the info regarding car build after the chassis is going to prety much the same unless there is some improvments in the suspension design regarding the lower wishbone

Hey up.

The book is due to be published in the second week of February.

Although the prototype car was built by Martin at Mk Engineering and myself it's a completely new design intended to iron out all the previous handling problems with some "seven" type cars - for example on the prototype we have completely eliminated bump steer.

The chassis drawings are computer generated and acurate to 1mm, probably more accurate than you'll be able to cut them!

The donor for the book build is the Ford Sierra, but throughout information is given for other donors which share a similar drivetrain set-up, i.e a body mounted diff with independant suspension all round.

I hope you like the book, I'm very proud of it!

Cheers

Chris

hi qoute from above.

Just thought that i should mention that not all seven type cars come whith the problems you refer to.

Bit of a sweeping comment really as only some manufacturers made such a c##k up of the book and thier interpitation of it.

cheers matt

I must say I'm quite disappointed with that post Matt.

This shouldn't be the place for you to conduct your vendetta against MK.

That's me done with this forum, you and your friend are completely ruining the atmosphere.

My e-mail is available for any genuine questions about the book and I hope to speak to some of you in future.

Bye for now.

Chris

anyway...

One good thing is the £250 thing is gone.

I really felt that was a bit misleading on the second edition. Even in the first it was going to be extremely unlikely to be achieved. I for one am delighted to see a more up to date book which hopefully will cover the SVA in greater detail, I just wonder if they will be able to keep up with demand.

Hi it was in no way a jibe at mk it was more of a comment about your comment that i quoted in the post that implies that all seven type cars up EXCEPT your new book car have handeling problems.

This obviously is NOT tue as you are by the mention of (seven type cars) bringing westfield caterham raw striker and our self into that comment.

I am actually quite dissapointed that people on here can not read any of my comments whithout trying to somehow twist it into a mk slagging to cover up what was actually being said and disscussed as done by snoopy in previous thread.

I will say it again if i enter into a forum topic discussion i will do so based on facts.

FACT you said in the above post that you have iorned out all the problems with seven type cars handelling. There for impling that manufacturers such as caterham and westfield and raw striker and our selfs all have seven type cars that have problems.

PLease do not get this confussed with what you will term mk slagging or try to turn my comments into that when that quite clearly was not what i said.

cheers matt

I would just like to say that we need the benefit of people like Matt (procomp) on here to give the less experienced among us the information on what actually works in the real world and what does not.

For those that don't know, he prepares cars for competition, as well as making one of the most respected small volume "7"'s on the market.

He does not "plug" this fact on here.

He merely tries to guide those who are unaware on the subject of suspension design and how it functions on the, ultimately flawed (as is EVERY car EVER produced!! ) 7 concept.

What he cannot do is simply stand back and leave poor designs unchecked, as it is these that have, over the years, given the "kit car" industry a bad name in some quarters.

None of his comments were levelled at ChrisG or the new book.
