Are little cars getting bigger?
Just seen this, and I quite like it.

Yes, they all are.
mk1 golf is size of a lupo for example.
I think it's all to do with having to offer more interior space in the same model for each revision and all the added safety
devices/gadgets/crumple zones.
Cars are also getting heavier for the same reasons, are getting bigger wheels, brakes and tyres to make them handle and stop the same/better for the
extra weight we're all lugging about.

superminis were always 3.5m long up until the end of the 80s, Mediums sized cars around 4.0m.
The biggest superminis are close to 4m these days and medium sized cars are more like 4.3m.
The latest mondeo is much the same size as the old granada.
That's why there's room for city cars at the small end of everone's range, all the other cars have increased by 1 size.

You've probibly all seen the back to back tests of new and old: (like the drag races top gear did)
Mk1 Golf GTI (1600cc NA) vs New GTI (2000cc turbo)
Escort cossie vs Focus RS
and so on
so what you need is the power of the new with the weight of the old
my 106 is only 760kg and a 107 is 790kg and I think its actually a tiny bit smaller

Nice car. What is it? Looks like a Ford. We don't have good looking cars, like that, over here. Russ

Yeah, but I suspect the prod version won't look like that
If it does, can't imagine what it'll be like driving at night with all those red lights reflecting off screen.
If it's anything like the new Galaxy I looked at a few weeks ago, it'll bear more resemblance to the interior of a Mk 3 Cortina.
