Today's mission!

I need 2 sharply right-angled bends in 5/8" (16mm) heater hose.

Can't be bothered to pay through the nose for a couple of Samco bends (or equivalent other suppliers), plus the postage, so I plan to buy 1 piece of hose for some commonly available car and hack it into what I need.

Before I wander into my local Partco next week, can anyone think of a suitable replacement hose that will supply 2 good bends with an inch or two of straight hose on each side?

cheers,
David

(Yes, I know I'm being tight, but it's a long way from my last pay-day, and a couple of weeks until the next! )

When I want specific hoses, the best thing to do is to either go the scrappy and look through their hose bin..

Or ask the guy at the parts place really nicley if you can have a look at their stock...

If on a real budget i would suggest a trip to Spalls scrap yard.

Half an hour wondering round and i'm sure you will find some hose that will fit and they will probably only charge you 50p.

I'm not quite that hard up!

I just want to be able to wander into the local Partco and say "I want a hose for ...", pay around £5 and wander out with the answer to my current mission (impossible).

BTW: Doug - when do you want your ali pipe back?

I needed some sharp bends for the heater in my LR V8 - use copper plumbing fittings, painted black. Cheap as chips.

15 mm sounds like on of the standard sizes.

I was going to use copper pipe for most of it, but I don't have room for the manifold and pump connections - if I add a couple of inches of pipe for the hose to sit on, the whole assembly won't fit nicely.

The cunning plan is to use 2 90-degree rubber hose bends at each end, which makes the whole thing much more compact (and MUCH easier!)

I think I have a couple of plastic 90 deg. bends in my garage but I will not be able to get in there until the end of next week, but you are welcome to them if they will be any help.
They came from CBS and are shown on the website (15mm elbow connectors)
