Will it, won't it:D

Now taking (sportsmans) bets on whether Deimos will start tomorrow, after a couple of minor mods over the last 17 months

Got to connect up the fuel pump tonight - literally a five minute job, then in the morning - configure the TPS, water temp inputs etc, then

wer, wer, wer, wer, brm, BRM, whistle, etc etc

I hope!

Hope it goes well Simon - just remember to watch that boost until you can trust it! No more than a bar and you should be fine.

Oh and have clean underwear standing by

Started mine up for no apparent reason when i should have been doing the cycle wing brakets, let it warm up then gave some big revs....pulst it a bit... walked around it to appear as if i was fiddling with cables and mixtures.... let it tickover untill people came past with small dogs then gave it some again.
Will i ever grow up?

Well, at about 4.30 I finally got round to having a go at getting Deimos to work.

I connected the ECU earth/power wires to earth and ign switched feeds as required, turned on ignition and then the fuel pump.

Quick check indicated about 120psi on pressure gauge.

That's a bit high, I thought, so turned it down to a more acceptable 35psi.

Was thinking I'll connect ECU/PC after I'd tried starting.

Turned engine over and.....

Nothing.

Right, start with ignition; put spare plug in lead and turn over. Zilch. Check power to coil packs. Fine, so looked at sensor for coil pack trigger. About 3mm from toothed wheel, so moved to about 1/2mm from same.

Turned over again, no spark. Right, check the brand new leads/adaptors and first one no current flowing through. Check security of lead/adaptor. Get spark.

So far checked about 5 and two don't work, even without adaptors, just the ends.

Also having trouble getting ECU and PC to talk to each other (like they won't)

All in all, bit of waste of time really.

Still always next weekend!

Simon

Are you using the Emerald cable between ECU and P.C. as I believe it's not a standard lead? May be why the two are not communicating? Got my engine and Emerald ECU up and running without any problems , when it comes to computers I am a complete numpty. When you do get communication don't forget to calibrate the throttle pot if you are using one , Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.

Rusty, yeah I've got both the Emerald version of RS232 and their USB adaptor.

Will also probably need tocalibrate water and air temps too. And check the MAP sensor.

I have four out of the eight HT leads not carrying current. Replacing them tomorrow - not amused.

Raz, boost gauge? Mmmm, might need one of them

Yeah, I'm still having issues with connection between PC and ECU, but one thing Emerald pointed out was to a) check ignition pickup gap was smaller than I had it and also ensure a 12v supply to pins 11 and 28. I didn't have power to 28. Anyway, bored as I was, I put new HT leads on and turned it over. It fired a few times so I turned it over a few more times and it ran all by itself.

As it was late, I left it.

Think I'll have an early start tomorrow

Who knows, there may be a vid by the end of the year

Just need to make a bonnet now and bleed the brakes, then on the road
