Shawspeed

I have the Shawspeed in the picture at Brands Hatch. It's been on the road and going really well since first reg in September 04. It is my son driving at Brands and I drove your car for many laps on the same day. My engine is same state of tune as yours giving 175bhp. This winter's upgrade is a shortened sump having smashed mine last year. We must make contact and meet up one day this summer as there arn't many Shawspeeds about.
Regards
Mike

Hi, very impressive all round. What exactly is your engine spec for 175 bhp?
Funnily enough I am thinking of doing the reverse to you - a racing Puma engined Ka!

My spec was Shawspeed ss4 cams
Shawspeed uprated rod bolts

hayabusa throttle bodies
Omex managment

rev limit at 8k did 10k like this, i've pulled it apart now for rebuild should see 200bhp when i've done

Just a quick question - looking at your engine shots from the first page, your tensioner pulley is considerably smaller than standard.

I've got a Puma engine fitted in my Mojo and space is so tight that this pulley rubs against the chassis durinng hard cornering... I'm using the tensioner assembly from a 1.25 Fiesta which is similar to yours, but I was wondering about your setup. Is your tensioner pulley smooth faced? If so, then I think that it was originally the other idler pulley that has been moved onto to tensioner. Do you know what mods were done to the tensioner to make it fit? The pulley on my tensioner is about 100mm diameter. This is a pic of my old 1.25 engine, but the belt routing and pulley sizes are the same on my Puma engine:

I've emailled Shawspeed with a similar enquiry but I thought I'd ask you directly as well..

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Ed.

The one I've got fitted is from a 1996 1.25 Fiesta, no A/C, no PAS and is part number 96MF-6A228-80.

Cheers,
Ed.

now the engine at the beginning of the year was supposed to be taken to the next level before it was n/a standard rods and pistons shaspeed big end bolts, ss4 shawspeed cams busa bodies and a trick head and it made 175bhp at 8000rpm, i had purchased some steel rods accralite pistons and ss6 cams and a set of jenvey dth bodies and was looking for around or over 200bhp n/a, the engine got built but wouldnt turn over by hand, it turns out the rods where mixed up anyway i lost the love for it at that point and left it in the garage over summer as i also have a old vw camper that i use to do the show round with the local club and we enjoyed using that,

anyway, i decided i want to build a turbo engine one day and called jon at shawspeed and he said yes he would like to do it, so we are doing it!

so 1600 zetec se,
lightened balanced knife edged crank
steel rods
custom accralite pistons
shawspeed turbo spec 2 cams making there debut
customer shawspeed inlet and tubular exhaust manifolds
garrett gt2871rs turbo
turbosmart external wastegate
omex 600 ecu

some up to date pics

thats about it for now,

piper have made the cams to spec and they should be here next week, then we can build the engine up!
