All that's in most backends as far as protection goes is a bit of fibreglass...

Go for it, and if you need to build in a bit of pretection then make a feature of some sort of cage...

Or better still, have a tank made, with some ribs in the outside of it for protection, or make it up in CF or Carbon/Kevlar etc...

Personally, I think it would look absolutely Ridiculous. But that's just me.

What's wrong with the new Westfield look or something? I think the back panel on the regular old 7 looks great, and in fact, a stroke of genius, or my name isn't Colin Chapman. Wait a minute...

Stick a roof on it and some nice orange bodywork and you've just reinvented the Bond Bug

I'm not saying that's a good thing mind.

I like the Idea, classic V-Dub type jobby with a bar/cage type arangement would look good.

You're going to have to run rear wings anyway so build your rear lights into those. Maybe find a way to put some front wings on the back to let you see more of the suspension/framework.
As for some limited tank/go juice protection, what about a foam filled tank behind a plate that mimics that good looking cross brace with it's triangular holes.
You can also hide your rear wiring in conduit or tubing that you could make to look like part of the chassis

+1 from me

Steve

Actually that has the potential to look really good, maybe some kind of clear perspex to cover it up over a frame?

Seat Tanks....

I remember seeing a trike with the tank being part of the seat (Single Seater)
with thick aluminum, and a lot of curves and welds, not easy, but doable, if ou make two seat tanks, you may just have adjustability on your COG, and option to have long range.
The only problem then is if you get T-Boned as you will be seating on the Fuel

Hazardous Cargo Sticker...

You may put a Hazardous /Flammable cargo Sticker on your tank.
Don´t know how it works in UK Europe though...

My other speed machine ,apart from my STM,has the petrol tank between my legs with no protection ... Honda made it that way on the Fireblade.
I think your Idea is inspired and should be encouraged.(sp)
Regards Denis.

Where did that go?

I suggest you check out the legality of putting the petrol tank under the scuttle before doing anything.
Effectively its INSIDE the passenger / driver compartment.
I would have thought there are some safety regs to abide by if its actually allowed at all.
In the rear, its not in the people space / area.

Personally speaking I wouldnt want it sitting above my legs.
ie an accident, Legs trapped, and petrol leaking onto them. It doesnt bear thinking about.

I would think long and hard, and read up on the regs before putting it anywhere in the people compartment.
If you do it and its against the regs, then an insurance company or your passenger would crucify in court you in the event of an accident.
Its not just the risk to you, but to your passengers and anyone else if you sell the car.

As for the way its currently located in the rear. Personally, I would want some more protection than there is. I know there are several manufacturers with this type of rear end.
Not a design I would prefer to have for myself. My Viento is not much better when it comes to rear end protection either!
Anything has to be better than nothing at all.

Just my thoughts and 2d worth.

1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Best Regards

To be honest, I've dispensed with all regard to safety... I mean, who cares?

No one who I like will get into a car with me either, so that's the issue of responsibility sorted!

As long as it's roadworthy, then that'll do me!

I only have the 2 just now Robert... the RS4 V8 and a 1.8 MX5 engine.

I suspect neither will be getting fitted to it though!

Which reminds me... I really should get round to selling the MX5 engine... over to the For sale section I go!

PS - What's growing inside the crane at the back of your building?
