i thought that the points system was to determine if you got an age related or Q plate. strange

I was pretty sure that if you got enough points you got an age related plate, so the same prefix as your donor but not the same reg. If you didnt get enough points you get a Q reg.

There seems to be so much difference between DVLA centres that anything could be true though!

Bad luck, but at least it gives you the chance to put a bike engine in it

not worth stripping down to see what the damage is or if a hone and new rings might sort it? suppose if its picked up that badly could be new pistons aswell! might be worth holding onto/stripping as a spare or for bits though..

Ned.

How does skimming the sump affect the relationship of the baffle and crank? Surely to have any effect on that, you'd need to skim the bottom half of the block?

Sorry, ignore last post, I thought the baffle sandwiched between the sump and the block but its actually mounted inside the sump.
In which case, could you not get the 4 little mounting posts machined down by the same mount, therefore moving the baffle down as well (putting it slightly closer to the base of the sump)

the baffle plate in the ally sump is quite thick iirc, i'd prob just (carefully) take a dremel or grinder to it, perhaps do a dry assembly of the parts or measure the distance or if you know the amount that was skimmed off the sump face/flange machine that amount out accordingly. are you still using the standard vauxhall windage tray that goes between the block and the sump?

Put three gaskets in and take a bit off the crank webs .

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
