Shipping UK to Canada -Warning to Canadians

I was quoted 60 (six zero) pounds to ship a small box containing 2 tail lights made of plastic, two small formula mirrors (made of plastic), 2 8" wiper blades and a horn. That wouldn't include UPS charges (always another 15 pounds or so minimum.)

I cancelled my order. It took Caterham almost a month to respond to emails since they were closed. Saving themselves a bit of $$ I guess.

Not being able to find suitable parts here is at the limit. No more. I may fly over myself just to buy some stuff rather than pay that kind of money so the couriers can chuck my box all over the place and squash it.

That's nowt, one of our clients wanted to ship a small work of art (two birds on reeds about 2 foot long, on slate base to Ireland.

Cost - £470

Could drive there and back, pay the ferryman and have a few quid left!

I had a BMW diff shipped over from Germany for about £40!

I seriously don't get it. What is going on? I can also ship a whole car from one end of Canada to the other, or from the UK to North America for about 500 to 1000 pounds your money.

I reckon that'll be air freight - see if you can get it shipped by boat. It'll take about 6 months, but should be much much cheaper.

That or see if anyone on here is coming your way, or to the US who can get it on domestic (US/Can) post.

Are there any car shows in March/April? I might just fly over and stuff things in my pockets.

Ship using Parcelforce or Royal Mail, much cheaper rates to Canada.

Brown sucks, they'll charge a fortune for brokerage, take forever and a day and smash it to bits anyway -- you'd be better off with a potato cannon than UPS.

Cheers, Ted

A little off topic but a question for Canadians. Why, if your country is called ca-na-da are you called ca-nae-dians? Surely, for the sake of consistency, either you should be called ca-na-diens or your country should be called ca-nae-dia. Eh?

thats funy I've always called it ca-nae-dia tongue in cheek for that very reason

There is a similar dilemma with the actor Sean Bean
it should be said either "shorn born" or "Sheen Bean"

Seriously though interparcel are very good and very well priced.

I have numerous parcels including an escort steering rack shipped to the states for quite little money. They were also uber quick. The steering rack was picked up from my mums house at 11 am friday morning and was delivered at 12.30 on moday afternoon

Can't help you with the proncunciation of our country. All we know is that English people and Newfies speak oddly. We often say it's because of ....., but then that would be just rude and not called for at all. This obviously doesn't apply to my dear departed grandmother from Bolton, Lancs. or my aunt from Kettering, Northants., mostly my school friends originally from the London area.

Not everyone wants to use Parcelforce for some reason, but I agree with you Liam. Carbon Mods sent their things through them.
