Flux - why is my car a Q plate

Can anyone give me a sensible couple of lines stating why my R1 Indy is a Q plate?

Has anyone ever had to provide this in writing before?

I have also been asked to provide 6 colour photos to them, again anyone ever needed to do this?

I am happy to do so and its all in my documents stating its not urgent but will be needed.

So, anyone want to knock up a couple of lines for me?

new chassis, shock, old steering rack, diff and prop, old engine. No declerations of newnes on the items but must are refurbed

i had to do this for my trike.

just say the engine is second hand and many parts are refurbished to an as-new standard. should keep them happy.

photos are to make sure you dont clone the vehicle and write off something worthless to get a pay out...

I had to send pics to them but nothing was said about my Q plate

keep the pics on your PC ready to email them as they will lose the originals you send them anyway as they did with mine.

also if your getting it with a value make sure its on the documents they send you as mine was missing until I rang them about it and had a new set sent out.

I had to send in pictures of both the falcon and the beachbuggy before, quite normal as most insurance companys haven't a clue what they might be

I was asked to send in the photos. It's sometimes to do with agreed values. I didn't send in my photos actually so they insured it for less than the agreed value. Cheeky.... even if my own fault....

You get a Q plate when there is not enough of a Donor car to retain the age registration.

Did you have a donor car, with a V5, and you gave the V5 in to the DVLA when you registered the car?.
You need to use the axles, steering and probably the engine and gearbox to retain enough points to get a Non Q plate.
If you DO have enough points, you DONT get the Donor's reg, but an age related plate instead.
ie if there is not enough of the donor used, or no donor at all, then you get a Q plate.

If you use ALL new bits and One Refurbished part (usually the engine) you qualify for a NEW registration (ie an 09 plate).

Personally speaking you want a Q plate, as the emission testing at MoT is easier.

I assume you are talking about Adrian Flux insurance?.
They know the rules and regs, and should not query a Q plate.

You are being asked for photo's as this helps them.
Consider you telling them its worth £30k, and in reality its only worth £3k.
Or the reverse, where it actuall did cost your £30k to build, they may not think its worth it, as it could actually be a bit of tat!.
This is to give them evidence of the standard, and value of the car.

You can soon see if the car is somewhere right for the value given.

Also it stops fraud, where people claim the car stolen, and over valued it.
They are protecting them selves (and their customers who together pay for your claims)

It all sounds par for the course to me.

In my experience you only need photos for an agreed value policy. As those policies are usually (but not always) for classics, they may be wondering why its on a Q

It does seam on really.
- As say, fair enough on have the pics to back up the valuation, but surely if its a q-plate thats just between you and the DVLA.

Who knows, maybe there just curious.

They asked for a lot of photos when my housemate got a softtop for his series landrover.
