car finally on the road....... and straight back off again! feck!
passed my sva last Monday, wet to Tuesday the next morning, dvla inspection Friday morning and then went into dvla yesterday afternoon where i finally
got my reg no 
went out and had a pretty good drive apart from a few missed gears.
for as long as i can remember (last sva and trip to have its emissions done) Ive had a vibration from the prop if I'm at a steady speed above
50, i put it down to how the middle support is mounted and was going to do something to dampen it this weekend.
not needed! about 500meters from home i get a wobble in the car, clutch down and it gets better then gets very bad (all happens in about 3 seconds)
BANG! - sprocket adaptor coming off gearbox
BANG! - sprocket adaptor smashing through gearchange cable
thud thud thud thud thud then i realised what it was, shat myself and slammed the brakes on.
had to tow it home at about 1 mph as it sounded awful as the prop bashed around.
chassis / prop / adaptor and surrounding area all look fine but I'm not sure about the gearbox output shaft at the mo, will have the engine out
later and give it all a good going over.
god i hate Friday 13th!

Nightmare!
Unfortunatley quite a common failure.
New nylocs, threadlock and locknuts req'd.

My prop adapter came loose 2 weeks ago. Luckily, the prop was sized so that with the end moved all the way in, the adapter doesn't come off the
spline. Annoying though. Clean up the threads with solvent to get the oil off. Put the nut on with plenty of thread lock.
within the first week of me getting number plates, one of the half shafts came off It was then that I remembered I'd run out of thread lock
at the one end and was going to go back to it. Oops. 2 of the bolts were lost, 2 had come loose and the last to snapped. Still, no harm done.

Had the prop been professionally balanced? If it was vibrating since day 1 it sounds as if it might not have been done correctly.
Glad you weren't hurt, flailing props can be very nasty.

Sorry to hijack, but do most people use bolts that go right through the prop adaptor, with a nyloc on the back? I have bolts that go through by about
5mm, and I used plenty of thread lock. Now you have me worried I will lose my legs on the way to SVA! What have most done?

Well, my Escort back axle spent most of its working life with bolts loctite'd in place by Ford...
If you make sure that the threads on the bolt and in the hole are REALLY clean before applying the loctite, then only a hard pull with a spanner will
ever shift them.

First off bad luck dan, but at least you weren't hurt..
twybrow if your prop adaptor is like mine (as supplied by st/aries) then it is threaded and there isn't any clearance to get any locknuts on? so
i used bolts that protruded thru by about 6mm and wirelocked them in pairs. Also when i attached the prop adaptor with the large nut i used reused the
locking washer and threadlock...

I don't have room behaind the prop adaptor for nylocs, but I suppose wire locking might have been possible.
I also couldn't use the origianl bike locking washer, as it didn't go inside the prop adaptor. I just used plenty of threadlock. On the
plus side, with my centre prop mount in place, you cant actually pull the prop adaptor out of place, as it has nowhere to go.
