I am looking at a golf v6 4motion which seems to be a good price.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any problems with them and also what kind of fuel consumption i might be looking at?!?!
Thanks everyone

Think that may have the VR6 engine? if it has check VERY carefully for timing chain rattle at the gearbox end of the engine.

My mate has one but he drives like an old lady and has never gone above 1000rpm lol. but I just assumed it would go quicker.

Weird, I just checked the weight of one, expecting it to be hugely heavy but 1450kgs doesn't seem "too" bad for a modern-ish lardy
hatchback. Must be the gearing

Fan resistors tend to go, meaning fans are on all time ignition is on, also Longditudinal / Lateral sensors are a bit iffy - esp/abs light on.
Just replaced a longditudinal one on a lady friends one last week - She does tend to drive it pretty hard though

i am starting to think that 26mpg is going to be a wee bit to low for an everyday car. Such a shame cos the 1.6 is not much cheaper!!
Thanks for the help

Sounds very lardy to me, only a few kg's short of a V6 Mondeo!

But it's a Golf, they're infamous for eating all the pies

Prime candidate for an LPG conversion -- fuel cost reduced to 55% to 65% of petrol costs --- depending how far you are from a cheap lpg station.
Just under 1000 for a top quality DIY kit from a very reputable supplier. http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/acatalog/SGIS.html
