I now know why I built it..
What a fantastic day..
Sun was shining, couldn't be assed to do any work so decided to go for a drive...
Got down to Bordeaux ( about 100 miles)
Thought sod it, and kept going.
Finaly ended up at the Arcachon on the Atlantic coast.
I had only driven it around the lanes here, so didn't know what it would be like on a run.
Well it was great, cruised easly at about 70 to 80 with no problems at all.
Filled up with fuel at 160 miles, only took 21 litres. I make that about 35 mpg
more than happy with that.
Finaly home with a round trip of just over 300 miles. No aches or pains at all
Little bit of a brain rattle, coz I forgot my ear plugs..
Can't wait for my holiday now....
David..

If the bridges were high enough around here I'd just go jump off. I mean after seeing that, what's the point?
That looks like fun!! Can't wait to take my dog out.

It's an 1800 Pinto.
Except from changing the carb to a Weber.
The engine is exactly as it came out of the Sierra.
I've got a 2ltr Pinto injection to go in it at the end of the year....may be.!!
18mpg would definatly make me think again

car looks nice, glad you enjoyed the drive!
Imconstantly amazed by some of the mpg figures banded around this site. A reasonable engine in a 600kg car should never be under 20 to the gallon
unless youre on a track.
Ive got a 1600 16v nova that does 40 on a run and about 32 if youre really on it on the road. It still does low 20s on a track!

Main problem is the aerodynamics of the 7, at a 70mph cruise it's taking lots more power to push it along than a modern tin top.

a nova isnt a modern tin top, its a 900kg brick with a not inconsiderable frontal area!
Im not expecting wonderous economy, but for instance my t5 engine used to average 25-27mpg in a volvo 850. If it does less in a 500kg locost with half
the frontal area then something is VERY wrong.
As for 18mpg with a pinto, the jets may as well be missing, thats not metering fuel, its just pouring it in

Now if we are talking "House brick"
I also run this.
1300cc Jimny.
If I get 18mpg then I'm doing well.
15 mpg is the norm on a run
If you could call it a run....
anything above 60, it's a real handfull.
Off road it's great fun though.

The worst I've managed is about 25mpg.
Driving like I stole it....

around.

I got attacked by geese in Hebden Bridge, my missus told me off for kicking one back into the canal (everyone was watching but the goose started it)
My 2.0ltr Pinto gets at least 25mpg, is somebody nicking your fuel?
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

right then, today, i filler up,a nd put 15.08 litres in and done 90.1miles, so i work taht out to be around 28mpg, which i can live with, meaning i
have a 180mile radius on one tank from full to no fuel left.
which i am very happy with
