has this happened to you???

Hi All

Went outside today to work on a small gasket issue on the exhaust, and some how, I've now gone to an engine out and new sump needed

see thread http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=110758&page=1#pid924411

How many times has this happened to you?

many thanks

Sounds a bit like me and my car. It's always had a slight knock, which I put down to being a BEC. One day it started to get worse, and I started getting more false neutrals. Then I realised it was 4th gear going south. Only thing is it went away fully on a run out to a TVR meet, and I was already 45 miles from home. Decided to carry on, and made it nearly all the way home just missing 4th. Got 3 miles from home when all the drive went. I assumed a bit of 4th gear had jammed the clutch. Turns out the prop centre joint had stripped ALL it's splines out. So now I had no 4th and needed a new prop. Thanks to malc though it's cost me less than £500 to get a whole new gear set, selector forks, new TRT prop (and mine wasn't before) and reseal the engine. Just got to see if it works now.

just the excuse to give the misses as to why you are about to spend several hundred pounds on a dry sump system

sounds familiar...went out today to try fixing dads car, ended up wiring in the fan, cutting some new vents in the bonnet and putting in a wee deflector...

good luck fixing it up
