Anyone felt a washer?

No, that's not right - hang on - anyone know where I can get felt washers?

I need 2 with an i.d. of 14mm, max o.d. of 25mm, suitable for soaking with oil to form a secondary rotary seal. Thickness of around 2 or 3mm.

I've found a few on t'internet, but usually for min. quantities of 500 or so!

Alternatively, where can I get a few square inches of dense wool felt from which I can stamp out a few pieces?

cheers,
David

I've seen sheets of stuff like that in diy stores for sticking under chair legs etc as they are self adhesive to stop them scrapping along the floor. Maybe worth a look.

You should be able to get them from a sewing-machine / handicrafts shop. Soft felt washers are traditionally used on sewing machines underneath bobbins, to reduce the resistance / scratching between the bottom of the reel / spool and the body of the machine.

Just don't let your missus / mum / sister catch you nicking hers.

Well the boys are really trying hard to help you here eh David

What about Woolies the vehicle trim people? They probably won't have washers, but they'll almost certainly have the right type of material available (subject to an MOQ no doubt).

land rovers use felt washer on half shaft seal.

one side of washer is rubberised

see

look carefully at the photo - the top is black rubberised stuff and you can see the thcikness of the washer.

I can measure up one as I have one at home.
