transporting a car from Birmingham to Edinburgh.

I've just had an enquiry about my vortx, which is for sale. The guy is from Edinburgh and he's found out it will cost him £350 to get the car transported from Birmingham to Edinburgh. Is there a cheaper way to transport the car?

(yes, I could suggest a 1 way train ticket and him driving it home)

He could hire a trailer, or you could?

Worth it for a sale with so many similar cars for sale at the moment. (hefty non refundable deposit required of course)

I got a quote for £245 from way further south than Brum to Edinburgh so he could get it less than £350 I'm sure.

Trailer is the easy option assuming you/he has a towbar, or hiring a Luton van/similar is possible.

If it isn't broke, fix it until it is

I don't have a tow car so that option is out really. Its a 5 hour + drive plus the train (or plane and taxis) which makes it a long day. I think I'd rather pay for the transport company. Do any of you know any locost transport firms?

He only said Edinburgh, but has an 01506 phone number, though that could be work of course.

thats a West Lothian area code - thats the same side of town as the airport....
(0131 is the city itself)

there is a bonus to driving it up - once your a bit North of the border, turn off the motorway - the borders back roads are always fun (Moffat to Edinburgh)

It used to make the 3 times a week commute from Liverpool to Edinburgh much more enjoyable. Lovely A roads, and beautiful backdrop. Just a shame about the people. JOKE!

Don't trouble you're selves on this one. Despite finding a £110 courier and offering to pay for it for him, and finding a £31 return train fare so he can come and see it, he still thinks its too far away.

Why can't people take the extra few seconds to think about this. To my knowledge, Birmingham hasn't moved further away from Edinburgh in the last few centuries. If the distance troubles him, why did he get in touch in the first place?

Probably wants you to suggest a drop in price to make it worth his while. Either that or he's getting cold feet.

no idea who has done this ... call the AA telling them the gearbox is knackered and request a low loader, and ask them to take home or you favoured garage

bad luck

if anyone is really interested, they would come down and view.

I'd be very surpirsed/suspiscious of anyone who would buy a car from an advert without viewing, unless it was less than a couple hundred quid.

I just assume his geography wasn't very good and just didn't realise it was 300 miles from Edinburgh to Birmingham. It's frustrating 'cos I've had about 2 enquiries a week for the last 5 weeks for the car and only 1 viewing. They all say they love it and then promptly scarper.

It is Here on Pistonheads plus on locostbuilders and the MNR forum. All the interest has come from Pistonheads.
