OH AR5E, AR5E & AR5E

Decided to offer the Indy up for very very reluctant sale, spent ages mentally preparing myself, fettling the car and generally being miserable about it. I hadn't even advertised it and was planning to use it for June and then advertise a little over the odds in the hope it wouldn't sell.

Turns out my brother in-law's brother who's been trying to build a Robin Hood since time began is now desperate to ditch the Hood and by my Indy - faith in my build skills, loves the car blah blah.

He's happy with the asking price and wanst to come this weekend to check it over and probably take it way.

THIS WASN'T MEANT TO HAPPEN LIKE THIS....

on the flip side, he has a very tidy 205GTI sat in a barn that he's also thrown into the equation as a part ex option. Again the figures work out well on my part (and TBH on his too).

As some may know and from my user name I have a rather large damp patch for the old 205 GTIs and this has just made the whole thing worse

What's a guy to do....?

If you really don't want to sell, then don't sell.

I really regret selling my old RH. At the time it seemed like the right thing to do, to free up garage space and to fund my new build. But in hindsight, I should have kept it on the drive under a cover and then I'd still have had a 7-a-like to drive for the last three years while the new one took shape

Get the GTI I have a friend who has lots of spares and an equally large damp patch for said vehicle.

You and him should get together and Sit there swapping stories with WOOD

My friend says with a "little" money o-60 in 5 secs is easily achievable.

He didnt specify what "little" meant tho

Friend has just said does brother in laws brother fancy swapping the 205 for a 1973 V8 Rangerover

definitely get the 205..

mine leaks water, burns oil, starts first time every time (but then stalls if you dont play with the throttle) and hates being driven under 10mph.

Buying it has been, without doubt, the best decision of my life - I try to arrange my weekends so I have a chance to have a dash out in it

ETA: - if you dont want "more power" it'll also appreciate if you look after it sensibly.

PX the 205 for the Indy as offered. Presumably you are on good terms with him, so you could still go for a blat in the Indy occasionally?

if you want to sell it, then sell it.

if you don;t then don't.

no car, well, the sort that we can afford, is irreplaceable, not a like a kidney or anything.

look to the future not back.

There was a supercharged 205 on ebay that I was going to bid on.

The to$$er has pulled the auction

If you get visiting rights then sell it to him and rebuild the 205.

if you sell it to your brother in-law, you can always borrow it back again (assuming you get on with him well enough that is)

Problem is I really don't want to sell the Indy at all - I've just got it back on the road after a year in the garage and with all this good weather I've just fallen in love with it all over again

Problem (2) is I'd really the 205 as well

Problem (3) moneys tight right now and the part -ex option leaves me with a toy and some cash.

Problem (4) brother in-laws brother is 150 miles away so not an option to pop over for a quick blat

I have to decide by the weekend.....arrrrggghhhh

You can always get more money. It seems like that isn't the case, but when absolutely needed, it comes through. I went through the "so broke I can't pay attention" period too: how do I pay the rent, no cheese on the macaroni etc, but when things were dire, I made things change, and they did. You can too.

Such a nice build site too.

Your brother in law's brother wants to buy a seven and you don't really want to sell him yours? Sell him mine!

Do a Deal...

Get the 205, and his halfbuilt RH.

Play with the 205, whist building the RH.
Sell the RH and build another Indy later on.

2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Must admit I had't thought of that - could be a longer term but more lucrative approach.

That 205 looks tidy.

If you dont want to sell then dont. But if you were going to use it through June you still can.

Part ex for RH and 205 as Geoff says but tell him he'l have to wait until july.

That 205 is one of my old ones (another regretted sale)

Looks like I'm going to keep the Indy for June then take his Pug and some cash - unless I change my mind AGAIN

Looks like the deal has reached stalemate on perceived values of the cars involved - probably to be expected really, but a shame when I'd psyched myself for the Indy going and a new Pug to play with.

Looks like I'll be putting the Indy up for sale anyway on Piston Heads. Don't want it to go, but the money could be better employed elsewhere (house/kids etc) right now.

Still, I might have funds to buy a welder and some steel and start on a chasis of some kind
