Exposed Rear End on Se7en

Clearly feeling a tad better as starting to think of garagey stuff again!

Had taken the bodywork off the Xtreme a while ago as I was going to re-paint. Still lying in the garage naked (the car - not me ).

Struck me that it's actually quite a nice bit of engineering - especially at the back! Got me thinking about leaving the rear-end exposed once (if!) it's all re-built!

Taking legalities and practicalities aside (it's a registered car), does anyone think that this could 'work' with the boot section left off? I'm thinking along the lines of freshly coating / painting all exposed parts (wishbones, diff, tank, diff cradle, etc) in bodywork contrasting colours and fabbing a pair of light-pods. Wheels covered by cycle wings.

Or have I just been taking too many painkillers for too long...

PS - The boot on the Quantum is mahoosive and weighs a ton!

I like the idea. The worst part of a seven, is the basket at the back.

I do have the option of relocating the tank to under the scuttle (why not... can't be any more bizarre than any of my other ideas ).

That would make the weight distribution somewhat unbalanced though...

With my fat ass in the driving seat then weight distribution is the last thing I need to worry about...

Good point though!

If I did go down the 'naked-bum' route, then a fabbed tank that better suits the rear profile is not too much of a hardship!

just playing with thought...

My line of thinking is that the grp boot-box is not going to do an awful lot in a collision. Definitely less vulnerable up there than where the tank was located on my old Caterham...

Still, it's is something that I did think of, hence the potential for relocating the tank to the scuttle.

Just thinking out loud... well, thinking in type!

could look pretty cool, but... i think with all the boring stuff you need to have on the road, lights (and cabling) number plates etc, you might end up with all manner of nasty looking bits needing to be added to support all those things. if a race car, then yes it would work, but i think it might look a bit messy when you come to put all the road legal stuff on

I think I've thunk a bit more and yes, it probably would be potty running with a tank exposed like that... slightest prang and the motion-lotion is going to fly everywhere!

Soooo... lets work on the provision of the tank being relocated!

Proceed so...

There's no much between you and the 4x4 running into the back of you anyway. I'd just make a feature of it. Get it all polished up!
The only issue would be the fact that you are advertising that as where you store the expensive fuel and it wouldn't surprise me if you pull away from lights dragging a pikey and his piece of tubing with you!
