Picking up a 10 Year project, Please help me find a way forward
Hi everyone,
The story goes, My dad started the Build of a Ron Champion kit car. This was over 10 years ago!!
He Unfortunatly had to stop for various reasons.
Me and my brother have decided it is time to pick up from where he stopped and get it complete for him. The frame is fully built and we have lots of
components,
However
My dad used a Ford P100 1.8 Pinto Pickup, From this he pulled all the running gear & engine/Gearbox
We have a recipt for the sale of the truck, And the number plate, But no VIN/ Chassis number.
Are we still able to use this engine? I have tried reading up on this but having a majour info overload.
If we are able to use this engine and gearbox i belive we will need some adaptor plate?
I am a newbie go steady
Any info and a way forward is greatly appreciated

anything and everything is possible
you can use the engine no problem, the lack of chassis number etc is only a problem if you wanted to keep the P100's original number plate,
'worst' case (not at all bad) is you end up with a Q plate.
i for example, have the engine out a vectra, gearbox out a sierra, rear axle out a capri, front uprights off a bedford midi, steering rack off a
escort, radiator off a transit, and carbs off a motorbike, with no donor!
I want a Q plate anyway, so thats fine.

edit: if the engine and gearbox are out the same truck, and fit together, you shouldn't need any sort of adaptor plate, unless you mean
something different?
as i know it, an adapter plate would be used to say join and engine and gearbox that don't normally go together, like a chevy V8 to an audi
transaxle, you shouldn't have any issues like that though

Wow Quick replies. Much appreciated. That info was the good news we were hoping for.
A Q plate would be fine by us so guess were all good to go ahead with the kit we have
I will get some pics uploaded tommorow.
I think were also going to try compile a list of all the various bits we have so we can start checking things off. The main obvious bit i think we are
missing is the susspension.
Fun times ahead!

I just tried this but did not find any info, One thing i forgot to mention in my original post, The Truck was scrapped not long after the bits were
pulled from it.
Hope this wouldnt effect the engine etc.

If you are happy with a Q plate, a vin number is not needed.
Just the reciept for the truck is good enough to prove you didn't nick them.
If the engine and box came from the P100 and worked, why would you need an adaptor?

Are you really sure?
Can't think why you'd choose to have a Q plate as against an age related one. For instance if it was based on an 88 truck, then if you do
things properly you'd end up with a random F plate and from that you can buy a personal reg (no newer than an F) if you want to. So for instance
DVLA could issue F123 VGC and you could buy your Dad a new number plate such as C100 DAD (Cool Dad geddit?). Or just keep the F plate, makes the car
look "old".
And to qualify for the age related plate, "all" you have to do is have two identifiable major components from the original car. Now since
you've got the engine and gearbox, you qualify and if you've also still got the V5, that'll tell you the old VIN number. If you
don't still have the V5, write to the DVLA, or better still pop in to your local DVLA office, they're really really helpful, tell them the
old reg number and I'm pretty sure they'll be able to give you the VIN number.
An age related plate ALWAYS makes a kit car more valuable or sellable than a Q.

but not always by much
there are plenty of people who don't care about the number plate, besides a q plate could even make the emissions easier at MOT time (not that a
pinto has to meet that high a standard in the first place....)
