help what to do
hi all
i have been looking for a new project and have decided to go down the kit car root. i am going to buy the chris gibbs how to build a sports car book
and i see it uses ford sierra parts for the build. so i was wondering if ford escort parts would also work with this build? any feed back and advice
would be much appreciated or if there is an alternative root i would be better off taking please advise.

Escort bits were used on the original Ron Champion Locost book. The Chris Gibbs book is a bit bigger and needs the Sierra bits.

Escorts (ford!) are very hard to find now, and command high prices, a bit like the non ford varitey, so im told!
and the last time i saw a Sierra ?? was years ago
I believe MX5 seem to be the current donor vehicle

haynes roadster is based on sierra but you can also use an MX5 there is plenty of info on the haynes forum (link in an above post)

What you planning to do ? are you hoping to plant a piece of steel in the ground, water it in the hope that it takes "root" and sprouts a
fully welded chassis

If I was building from new I would buy a chassiss and bolt is all on. This takes long enough for any vocational person to do and even with a long
attention span you will be itching to get it on the road after a couple of years building.
If you really wanted to go scratch built then I would use the search option on this website and plan, lots!
BMW and MX5 offer the best donor parts and prices.
Good luck and remember throughout; your living any mans dream, dont take it for granted and enjoy every second.

First piece of advice, (and most important) - if you are married, and want to stay so, DON'T DO IT!!
If you're still determined to continue this madness, and join all the nutters on this forum, make sure you have a warm, well-lit and secure
garage in which to work.
Thirdly, set aside a monthly sum to subsidise your project, 'cos you'll need it, deffo!
Otherwise, good luck, and choose your kit carefully.

Oh I dunno, I managed to stay married during my build and after.... I only sacked her a few years later for having mad cow disease
