Another absurd idea?

I keep looking at RICKMAN RANGER KIT CAR | eBay and thinking, "Hmmm that would be a cheap and quirky way to pulll my racecar... maybe a Zetec upgrade...."

I think I'm past helping... unless others think its a good idea...

You see the thing is, its purely to be used 10-times a year maybe (company car does everything else) and it would be a great way to keep insurance and purchase costs down. BUT, I had a 1.6 Pinto in a Sierra once and it was utterly powerless. Will this pull 750kgs up a hill?

On the plus side, if the axle on the racecar breaks, I'd have a spare to-hand.

Nope. Insurance issues.

The more you think about it the more sense it's going to make.. Apart from power, the only issue will be the gross weight as need to be more than the thing you are towing...

The Rickman Ranger is quite a light car for a soft roader (about 1 tonne) so I don't suppose it will tow 750kg particularly well.

What is the legal status if your car has no maximum towing weight stated by the manufacturer (as is almost certainly the case with the Ranger)?

I think this is a grey area, if you are lucky it might be on the V5...

You could try a post here

Ranger will be too light as a decent tow car.

It has a pinto, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I've split the hair-dressing community*!

It's madness. As Kate keeps reminding me, I've nothing to tow yet.

* I'm kidding; I've had one, Kate has one and I love them.

I think they're right it looks like it could be cracking for off roading but pants for towing, unless maybe you'd make a point of keeping a whole load of bits in the back to get the weight up?

Get a half sensible classic car - eg a pre 73 V8 Rover P6, only expense is insurance (+maintenance which you'd do no matter what); I had a classic quote of £90 ish.

I bought a Ranger a couple years ago, had some good fun with it. a Mate of mine bought it off me about 6 months ago for his daughter and is currently doing a zetec install on it, sooooo much space for it!
