R400 in Dundee showroom

At three oclock this MORNING Yes 3 am I was up doing a change out of power supplies and shiver my timbers @the SCOTT FYFEE Showrooms on Kingsway there stands a R400 in green metalic. Price tag 30 K .........nice motor!

My mate says why does it cost so much looks not much differant to yours.......nice one John BOY!

30K is a lot of cash!!

Is it really 30K of car? or is this the price for a label?

know what you mean. in terms of car for the money, you don't get a lot. in terms of performance for the money tho...
(well at least compared to production cars anyway, the kitcar scene kinda extends the trend...)
check that, i'm a rapper too, is there no end (or beginning) to my talents

sat in an r500 few years back when it came out (after the demise of the jpe) it was perfect, fitted me like a glove. knew then i needed one - compared to a well made k-series / vauxhall locost they are still well expensive but i still want one. R300 will do

I imagine it probably shifts.

Mate has a Cater**m and has taken me out in it a few times. Its a heavily worked 1700 Xflow and it went like nothing else

Mind you for 30K I'd rather have a second hand Noble!!

Actually for 30K I'd rather take a wedge out of the mortgage

I might start a war here, but I think caterhams offer
pretty good value for money!

Maybe I should make that clear - I did not say they
were cheap, I said I think they are good value!

2 main reasons:

A caterham classic is 12,950 to build yourself, with all
new parts. New parts really add to build costs! This
doesn't seem to compare too badly to a lot of locosts
with similar specs if you account for the extra time involved ( a caterham kit is panneled and plumbed, with
no reconditioning required - they reckon something like
70 hours for a build )

Resale - you can use one for a few years and get the
money you paid back for it!

They aren't cheap but I can agree with the good value perspective. The R400 has a new 200bhp K-series motor with six speed box and lots of years of development behind it, so you are paying for that. You can probably save about £2.5k off the price by putting the bits together yourself.

i would certainly rather a 10k caterham than an 8k formla 27 or tiger or something. actually, any locost to me needs to be below 4, maybe 5 at a push otherwise i would just dig a little deeper and get a caterham.

you do get a lot of development and a huge amount of power per litre on the hot ones and certainly, for the money the mid-spec ones are stunning. however, there would just always be a little niggle in my mind, having spent over 30k, looking over my tiny little road going go-kart with hardly anything to it.

i too like the idea of a noble

edit: actually, there are quite a few tasty ways in which i can think of spending 30k on a car...
