New To Locost
Hi, have toyed with building a kit 7 for years, finally getting closer to making the decision. Done a lot of reading and viewing websites, narrowed
down search to MK Engineering as their car seems to most closely resemble the Caterham. Want to build as a 2nd car, in other words cheaply. Unsure
about engine choice, love the idea of a bike engine but think they may be too complicated and pricey? My main concern is how the hell do I know what
part goes where, and in what order?!! Without a build manual, how do I know if I've missed a bit? Are all you guys mechanics, and am I out of my
depth? Whadya think?
By the way, I live near Bath if anyone lives near here. Thanks,

The major difference between a Caterham and an MK Indy is that normal human beings fit into the MK.

Don't worry mate i know Jack S**t about building cars and i have ordered an Indy chassis. I have been reading the Build a Car for £250 which gives an
idea of what to do when. It's mostly common sense and you always have us lot to ask!

Hello,
I work in Bath, and live not a million miles away. I'm considering buying an MK Indy chassis (still toying with building one myself as well though).
Perhaps if we get enough people building them in the area, we could have a Bath brekkie.

Thanks guys. Your support is much appreciated. My boss races cars at Castle Combe and has advised me not to build a car, so your opinions are good to
hear. Donut - I could be in touch with you quite a lot if I go ahead with the MK! Kingr - good to hear someone's local to me. I intend to visit the
Exeter Kit Car show in November and will decide my course of action afterwards. My girlfriends folks live in Notts as well, so good opportunity to

You MUST visit MK, they are top blokes who will be able to supply almost everything for your car.
Good idea keeping in touch as we can sort problems out better while we are chugging along.
Get an Indy...you know you want to! Then you can buy what you can't make and make what you can't afford!

hello guys i dont know how i missed this post but i did, must of been sleeping, anyway im just down the road from you lot as well and ive got another

get it done lad, buy/build/beer a chassis. how will you know if you miss something out ,good idea to build at same time as someone localish.
nearest car builder to me seems to be nissan at sunderland brekkie cost £2000 . JUST DO IT

'Highcost' - where are you based? Sounds like a good idea to meet for breakfast at some point. 'Kingr' lives somewhere near also. Would like to
see a completed MK.
Am visiting Exeter Kit Car show in a few weekends time (although I know MK won't be there), and up to Notts in December to visit my girlfriends
mother, so will work in a visit to MK at the same time.
I've written to Martin asking for a price for a rolling chassis to give me a head-start, but may still build from scratch, as the cost will no doubt
be prohibitive.
Look forward to seeing some of you at the Show, or for a brekkie in Bath/Bristol?

Can an MK be built using just a Sierra donor?
I'm asking coz i've got the Sierra (stripping it at present), but you guys seem to be using Ezzy and Cortina bits.
Thought the use of one donor (a la Mr R. Hood) would be a sensible and cheaper way to go.

Hi
The MK Indy is built using just sierra parts,escy and cortina parts are mainly what we call book versions.
I'm not sure why the escort gets involved though,as it must be easier to use a single donor such as the whole cortina 3/4 or 5 or even capri.

BTW, I'm a Southener by birth, but have lived in Yorkshire for 10 years. No wonder i'm confused.
I've got the fine vocal tones of Bedfordshire, with the wallet gripping skills of a born and bred Leeds local
