Silencer mount - advice and pictures please!

Hi, and thank you in advance.

I've a Stuart Taylor Locost running an early x-flow with a passenger side exhaust. The silencer was mounted on the side of the bodywork with a cylindrical bobbin and a motorcycle strap. On my way to Le Mans last year this failed, went to the supermarket and wrapped thick wire to fashion a road-trip repair. That survived the trip there and back but is not attractive!

I would be grateful if there were any other drivers who could share their silencer mounting positions and solutions so I can get my boy looking better for a trip to Spa to watch the 24hr classic.

Many thanks,

Griff

The metal exhaust strap failed; I assume vibration.?

Bobbins will quickly shear if mounted that way. Make a 90 bracket so that the weight of the silencer gently rests on the bobbin, allowing for the surprising 5mm or so that the exhaust will expand lengthways when it gets hot.

I dont have a pic so i will try and describe as best i can...

in the lower chassis box section there are two rivnuts in.
bolted to this is a triangular bit of alloy, that is bent out and then back up vertical to get the nut head behind it.
bolted to the top of that plate is a rubber bush with threads out of either end, one end bolts to the plate, the other bolts to the silencer.
seems to work just nicely

Hi
We bolted a steel plate to the underside & used a S/Steel P strap
or modify bike one.
This gives support to the silencer & one bolt fixing
We have 3 different silencers & it only takes a few minutes to change
them 1 clamp + 1 bolt .

IVA exhaust with cat
IVA exhaust with cat

Can fix
Can fix

We have a BEC so as the engine is hard mounted don't need a bobin
But if you need you can.
