im back but cant decide what to build?

ok guys im back after selling my beloved stuart taylor based 1300 xflow first build a number of years ago, after a recent promotion at work meaning iv now got the funds to get another build on the way.

so what se7en do I build?

1 - a Mazda running gear based 7 with the MX3 1.8 V6 or stick to the MX5 engine (had an MX3 tintop few years ago and loved the raw power) (cue Clairetoo )

2 - a V8 se7en - what chassis and which engine, box, running gear?

3 - basic ford running gear with a zetec or duratec?

4 - something a bit different - but what engine/running gear/chassis?

sorry no BEC here im totally inclined to CEC

so guys over to you lot to throw your 2 penny worth at me!

regards chris

I,d go for an original chapman, make it as light as possible with a ford sigma puma engine, if anything I'd try and shrink its size slightly!

Welcome back.

I'd go No1 but with a twist. RoadRunner SR2 with the 2.5 V6 Mazda engine (identical external dimensions to the 1.8v6) with Claire's throttle body conversion.

Or No4. Sylva J15... Either Duratec or Sigma or swap a 2.5v6 with throttle bodies onto the MX3 box. Or how about the MEV Replicar with the V6.

If you go down the 1.8 v6 KLDE route then the 2.5 mx6 is the same size/block etc. and this can give just over 200hp, a load of torque and a wonderful sound without opening up the engine, just bike TBs and a megasquirt (search Clairetoo).

Funnily enough, I may have one available due to change of plan on a project (still in car ready to be pulled out in the next couple of weeks) with a few bits to get you started on a TB setup (engine loom, coil pack, injectors, tubular exhaust manifolds also gearbox if you go down the J15 route). There is a good build thread in the MK section - http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/21/viewthread.php?tid=175336, U2U me if you are interested.

Happy hunting.

adithorp - sorry posts crossed in the ether sorry to copy/reiterate.

According to the Mazda v6 oracle (Claire), yes it's the same engine. It does (like all the v6's) need an adapter plate to join to an MX5 box

MEV Replicar with a v engine. Had they come up with it a year earlier I'd have been building one of those by now.

How about....built it with the Mx5 lump , but with the V6 in mind (space for the starter , height for throttle bodies and airbox under the bonnet etc) - SVA it with as stock an Mx5 setup as possible (should be easy for emissions and noise that way) then just swap it over .......
And do it all with 1.8 , then a change to the Mx3 1.8 V6 would just be a number change........capacity is near identical I believe , and 160 bhp would be possible.

Its cuz I is blond , innit

It would be cool to see something done with an Eco boost, if it's not been covered before!
