Daylight MOT
Hi guys,
Just wondering.. What is required in terms of exterior lighting for a Daytime MOT?

This inspection applies to all vehicles, except those which either have no front or rear position lamps or have such lamps permanently disconnected,
painted over or masked that are:
. only used during daylight hours, and
. not used at times of seriously reduced visibility.
If this situation occurs, the vehicle presenter should be issued with a VT32 (advisory notice) recording the above.

I had read online only brake lights and reflectors where required, i rang the MOT centre booking line to ask and they had never heard of it!
I wonder where i would get some gospel information on this?

It may have changed but when I used to have my trials bike MOT'd if it was fitted with a brake light it needed the whole set fitted
i.e indicators, side light and headlight.
Don't know if the same applies currently to four wheels

I took my race bike for MOT a couple years ago and it failed on the following..
For daylight only certificate..
No lights and no switches.
It failed because I had a brake light and the switches where still present on the handle bars.
I think its worth going and asking the tester...

My race bikes had daytime MoTs and they had a rear reflector and brake light. But this was several years ago!

I think part of the problem is testers are /very/ variable. If you want the gospel, speak to VOSA directly, then take that evidence to the tester and
carry it in your car as you're bound to get stopped by the fuzz.
